keensali Thanks to those who replied my question. First things first, I am an idiot! Now that we have that out of the way, I can proceed with my post.
My car is an 03, not an 05...so the car I was looking at was the same year. Went and checked it out and it needed a head gasket, everything else was mint. Worked out a deal with the owner and said I would be back the next morning to pay and pick it up. Got a text at 10pm that night, the owner decided not to sell. Bummer, since I had already rented a Uhaul trailer that afternoon so I could roll out the next morning. I am out $52, and relearned a lesson I have learned many many times in my years....BUY THE CAR AND TAKE IT ASAP!!!
I should have known better. Oh well, the search for another donor Focus continues. Thanks again to all those that take the time to answer questions, it is very much appreciated.

You should be able to just use a 00 harness. I would keep the newer harness as well just in case you be to splice something in. Another thing with the '02.5 engine is the throttle body is different. But as along ad you have a '02.5 throttle cable it will work.

You can't mix a pre 02.5 throttle cable with a 02.5 throttle body or vis versa.
Hey GlassMaker,

I have a 2003 with a blown SPI. There is a zetec parts car I could buy but it is a 2000 model year. I've read that there was a significant wiring change in 2002? Would using the 2000 model year parts car be possible for my 2003? Thank you for your advice.

Gearey77 Already now have a donor car for ecu and shifter pedal assembly etc

tmittelstaedt If your 2000 auto ZX3 is running you should buy a Focus with a stick shift on a Zetec and sell your ZX3. Far cheaper and less trouble than the swap. The swap is mainly for people who have the non-Zetec engine that has blown up.

It's best to find a complete car in your case look for a car older than 02. If you can find a 00 you'll be golden.

Your gonna need harness, ecu, axles, ect.

NOW THIS GOES FOR BOTH OF YOU!!

Don't quote me on this, I believe the zetec five speed harness vs the auto harness has less wires. If your good with wiring you can probably figure out what wiring is not suppose to be there on the auto harness and remove it and cap it off. Might be easier to just do that instead of removing the entire harness.

For instance the auto has a single wire that runs over to the shifter. Inside the car, the trans has it's own harness you can simply disconnect. You will however still need to manual ecu switched over.

I hope this helps, let me know if you have any more questions.

Car still looks decent and we love to drive it.
My options are to just sell it off and hunt for another car to have fun with, Focus or not. I have a chance to buy an 03 ZX5 Zetec auto with a blown head gasket. My car has about 120K on it, the 03 has 200K. The 03 has a mint body and the interior is good as well.
Here are the questions... Can I pull the auto engine and trans in one unit from the 03 and drop my engine and trans unit in?
Is the wire harness the same for both vehicles? If so, do I simply need to swap out the ECU? (understand I would need to either swap ignition switch or have 03 keys reprogrammed)
Will the parts swap be a PITA? I.E. clutch set up, shifter set up etc?
I am going to look the 03 over tomorrow and will be making the choice to buy or no buy in the next day or two. Any help will be welcomed.
Ok, if I'm too late to answer this I'm sorry. My first question, are you sure your 05 is a zetec?

If in fact it is a zetec, and not a duratec like I'm thinking you would have. Yes. You can swap the zetec over.

Now the your gonna need the harness and everything from the manual car, because the auto has more and different wiring to run the trsnsmission, and shifter.

Just like doing a spi (auto)to zetec(manual) swap. You'll need the trans, axles, harness, ecu, shifter, ect.

Now if my memory serves me correctly you should not need the dash harness or anything like that. Just the main engine harness that runs back to the fuel tank.

If however you 2.0/2.3 duratec. The swap is still completely possible, but I don't know anything about it and I know more is involved. Dash harness, ect....

TheGlassMaker The fuse box stays but the wiring goes. I wouldnt cut anything in case you need something.

Uberschprung Does the engine bay harness that has the fuse box stay or does it get swapped as well?
