#1) Removing door panels is easy. Don't let your dealer say otherwise. You'll need a torx bit, and a couple of screwdrivers.
#2) I had this problem on my DRIVER door. All I did was just sit and cycle the lock a couple dozen times and it fixed itself. Doesn't help you, I know, but if you can remove that door panel, try moving the bars back and forth that actuate the lock.

For no apparent reason, the rear passenger-side door on my 2010 Focus SEL would not unlock. I've tried the key fob and the driver door lock control many times. I lowered the window on that door and tried to move the lock knob manually but it won't move. The locks on the other three doors appear nicely coated with white grease. I checked the child lock switch on the driver-side rear door and it seems OK. I put a few drops of oil around the door lock knob. There does not appear to be any easy way to remove the door panel.
I contacted the dealership and they say that one has to remove the inside door panel by accessing it through the rear seat somehow and to look for any linkage problems. They say that it is not an easy job.
Anyone else have this problem?

|gtferrari||Well i had the same problem but have a coupe. It only affected one door. This was all under warranty but they never did replace it or remove it. Just sprayed some pb blast in it and called it good. There is a lot of dust that gets up into that area. I would have to hit the unlock twice to get the mechanism to engage properly. After they sprayed it the problem went away mostly. But if they replaced the part there must be another problem.|

i would get a wiring diagram and a dvom (digital volt ohm meter)
use the diagram to figure out what wires to test for. look for the ground wire. in ohm mode connect one lead to the ground and the other to the neg terminal on the bat. should read 0.0
now set it to vol= not vol~ find the positive wire and put a lead on that then leave the other on the neg term of the batt. press the button. you should see 12.6 volts
most likely you are looking for a bad ground or resistance in the wires or connections
