Yep, I mentioned that a long time ago.

If my DCT's clutch is coated in oil and slipping... an error code should be thrown.

The ECU and TCU shouldn't conspire to render the car completely gutless. That's what mine was doing. It drove OK except for the soft launches and the fact that the computer was always giving me a fraction of the power I was requesting, to avoid slipping the clutch. It was a real dog.

The computer KNOWS the clutch is slipping... but it has been programmed to work around it instead of throwing an error code. I'd like to know why turning the car into a gutless hunk of crap is preferable to alerting the driver to an obvious mechanical fault.

The software in these DCTs leaves a lot to be desired, and if I could go back to the firmware mine left the factory with, I would. Of course that's not an option.

I don't recall anyone mentioning it yet, but do your 2013 Foci shift into 6th gear at 35 or 40mph?

1turbofocus There is no tuning for the MKIII yet , Thats the problem

fishin-nole I'm surprised the after market tuners have not been working on these cars. I know they are tuning the new eco boost cars.

I can't guarantee if it's the new programming or the winter tires or the cold weather, but my shifts got quieter with the 2013 programming put on (After 12B37 that results in 40mph shifts into 6th, but a laggy / less "fun" shift).

It still makes some weird noises and occasionally shakes when turning, but I think that's because the clutch was ruined before the update from 39k miles of bad shifting - whether that be because it is glazed or contaminated with oil.

Ideally, you'd want a clean clutch, yes. You'd think with the TCM recall, they'd have added a DTC for "excessive clutch slipping" or something so that at least we don't look crazy when we go to the dealers.

Funny guy, Kabigon.
You know as well as I that I'm referring to factory programming of a new "mechanically healthy" vehicle. Goes without saying that leaking seals and/or abuse have nothing to do with programming. That's a quality control issue. I'm talking about mostly 2012s that, despite having no seal leaks or oil on the clutches, have poor engagement and shifting characteristics. That being said, it's also well documented that many many 2012 owners have no performance issues at all. Seems to be a crap shoot. Maybe that's why it is what it is. There might be too many mechanical tolerance variations in these DCTs to make a program work for all. That would explain why some owners report no problems and some owner's problems never seem to go away.
All this being said, my 2013 was frickin horrible the first 300 miles, got much better from 300 to 3200, and better again at 3200. Three definite steps. Strange.

The only reason they got rid of the SEL was to make the SE more expensive by adding the features from the SEL onto the SE to bring the price to just below that of the Titanium.

This and some misguided brand recognition as part of a strategy called good better best to streamline the model line down to three standard series S, SE, Ti, along with the Electric and ST as seperate sub model trees.

The transmission issues could theoretically affect any 2012+ since they all use the same gearbox, although the later programming and clutch packs seemed to have been much improved in many cases.
