Miller88 You're probably going to have to bring it, physicaly, to a Ford dealership and have them look at it.

They are probably making up a story that they can't do it because you don't have the car with you.

Chryco dealers got in a LOT of trouble in the past - you used to be able to walk into a Chrysler dealer, tell them a VIN and they would run off a key for you!

mikeeshaq """i called ford motor company and they said that the code may be on the computer but where is it located ?.....on the ecu front, back ? """

On the computer means connecting a Ford diagnostic computer up to the car and reading the memory contents.

But to tell the truth I have not heard of the actual physical key code [cuts on the key] being stored there

For somebody in a huge city like Chicago there ARE locksmiths with a device to connect to the ECU to reconfigure the electronic key codes. A regular locksmith can figure out the key code from a cylinder

For the OP, I would call around the various Ford dealerships and see if you get a different answer

Be prepared to show insurance/ title and your ID

mikeeshaq """sooo dealership for sure for one good copy ? """

Yes I am afraid so.

Of course if your keyhole is offset , then you have a 'ticking time bomb' where the ignition cylinder will just lock up.
If your keyhole is centered then at least you don't have that bugging you

mikeeshaq You need two good keys to program yet a third one (or 4th for the matter)
There are locksmiths that will make an exact clone of an existing key- but that is no good for programming another key
The reason that Ford does that so that a Valet parking attendant just cannot copy a key, have to have two keys for copying.

I am afraid you will have to 'bite the bullet' on this one. Make three 'smart' keys and one dumb one. Hide dumb key on the outside someplace. Hide smart key inside someplace. You will never be stranded again

There ARE key programmers out there that can communicate to the ECU, but I think it is a hit or miss, since those are non-Ford programmers.

TerryB You need an active key ( maybe two ) to program another one.
