valmundo Here is a video demo that shows how to use Google Maps to get turn by turn directions with sync services.

Pretty neat.

Tried Sync Services too...It's great

I've had my car for awhile but only barely touched sync services...until now. It really is pretty cool. Whether you have Myford or Myford Touch installed in your car, the turn by turn directions work really well. You won't get a map displayed on your touchscreen (MFT owners), but it is nevertheless, very well integrated into the system. Since its free for the first three years, I highly recommend that folks here try it out next time on your way to work or home.

A lot of "this" is normal in many online forums.

There are forum moderators. Let them do their job.

You forgot to include us idiots that use post-paid basic phones as well.

If they say its complimentary for three years on the sync information pages, then why would you have assumed differently just because this one thing you posted stated the reason why they want you to renew during the trial period?

No, I'd definitely have to agree with him...you were very unfriendly in your posts.

On topic, it bears mentioning again that Sync doesn't use a data connection on your phone at all...it's all voice. Only a few phones even have the ability to forward their data connection to the MyFord Touch system (don't think Sync alone is even capable), and that's only for updating music data and using as a WiFi router/repeater.

Anytime you connect to Sync Services and it has to obtain data from an outside source (anytime it's not just something that can be done in-car) uses your voice minutes to call the 1-800 number and uses a baud-type connection to stream the information. It's *incredibly* inefficient. My phone can download in 1/3 of a second what takes the current setup well over 30 seconds to obtain.

The reasoning is simple: They didn't know what phones would be connecting, so the easiest way to make sure stuff works is to use a voice connection. It just sucks that people with $15 TracPhonse and Boost Mobile are the reason we can't use our 3G/4G connections.

Who really knows what the answer is, but I do know this; it makes for a complete info-tainment package. Typically these are the kinds of things that I could care less about. I always buy my cars with Navigation and XM radio if available, but now that I have all the other features of Sync services, I think that has set a new standard in terms of minimal required equipment on my part.
My guess is that like with all other products, the ability of the services to be in French is a hindrance as is the fact unlike zipcodes, our postal codes are alphanumeric. The French part particularly bugs me because only a small handful of provinces requires French, and I don't live in one.

Subscribing to SYNC Services
SYNC Services is complimentary for the first three years with the purchase of many SYNC vehicles. The complimentary subscription includes 60 free Operator Assist sessions.

If your subscription has expired, or if a complimentary subscription is not available for your vehicle, you can log in to your SYNC Owner account to purchase a 1-year subscription for $60.00. This includes 20 free Operator Assist sessions. SYNC with MyFord requires a paid annual subscription.

If you have a complimentary subscription, we will ask you to renew your enrollment annually. You can renew your subscription in vehicle the system will prompt you when its time to renew or you can renew online by logging in to your SYNC Owner account.

There is no charge to renew your SYNC Services subscription during the three-year complimentary enrollment period. Your renewal lets us know that you plan to continue using the service and provides us with an opportunity to keep our customer service records accurate.
