More than half of the constellation will always be too close to the horizon or on the other side of the earth. Receiving a usable signal from 7 or 8 satellites at a time is doing pretty well.

manderson952 I live in downtown SF, and I park in one of the garages at 3rd/Mission. I have had issues with the signal when I initially start the car, though not every time. It isn't until I get out of the area that I get positioned properly. Though I know my way around the city, so I just change the screen to the radio or something so I don't get too annoyed

Flybigrc I have not lost my Nav signal in St. Louis

Merrigan I've never had any issues with mine. But so far the biggest city it's been in is pretty small and only has a few tall buildings. I'm taking it to some big cities in the next few weeks and I'm going to be using the navigation a fair bit so I guess I'll find out.

Tonybaloney With the first version of MFT I lost a signal a few times, usually when starting up it couldn't be found. But it has cut out in the middle of driving. My main issue was loss of functions. I could see where I was going, but couldn't do anything about it. Same goes with the 2nd version. Has anyone received the newest MFT/Sync/Satnav update yet?

e30og Drive through Baltimore City every day almost, and it never cuts out. Maybe Baltimore/Washington area is a hot spot so there is improved signal? I would be pretty blown if it was a regular thing...its a GPS. That is the most important thing to be functional in a big city!

Everytime I am in San Francisco by the highrises, I completely lose my navi signal and it then becomes useless. My Garmin never had any signal issues (this is not intended as a diss towards MFT, im just stating the facts.) Im hopeing you guys can chime in because if it's just me then I will have my service guy look into this when I go in tomorrow. Thanks in Advance
Hi, aperson9923 -

It's possible the highrises are blocking the GPS signal. Is there anywhere you can go that doesn't have these to further isolate the problem?

Also, do you know which software version you're currently running? I recommend checking your SyncMyRide account for an available update:

Hey, HillbillyInBC -

3.5.1 improves the following:

*Simplified Bluetooth phone pairing.

*More natural voice recognition.

*Flattened audio command structure: you can say the station frequency, "AM 760," or the official Sirius station name, like "HITS 1." You no longer need to say RADIO or SIRIUS first.

*Simplified navigation controls: The entry screen is now easier to input an address.

If anyone has additional questions, shoot me a PM. :)

e30og only have been downtown Baltimore but it never fails even in a parking garage, unless I am in the basement/sub basement (understandably)

always picks signal up quick

devvy I find the GPS/Maps are visually pleasing however the software does not display nearby street names in many cases (and I'm not talking side streets, I'm talking major roads). I also find that the GPS tends to navigate me into traffic. I suppose that has to do with me not paying to keep my Sirius Satellite w/ Traffic. Compared to my old Garmin, it isn't as good. Integration in my dash is nice but if I could do it again, I'd have a Focus SE w/o MFT or Nav and just use my trusty Garmin.

yycwesty we have to remember that in order to acquire a signal the vehicle has to be in direct line of sight with at least three of the satellites. If it can not triangulate your location, it will not be able to give you an accurate location. Hence when driving downtown in a city, those buildings are blocking the direct signal (signal cannot penetrate buildings) and initially it may provide feedback to your screen but as someone mentioned when you stop and then restart the car, it is not able to acquire the signal and you will be without GPS until you are in an area. Yes mount Everest would give you the best signal as you are receiving from all 28 or so satellites.
