TKE421 @Drewts86, those are XXR's.....not a good comparison at all, XXR's are rep wheels, they look incredibly nice, but if you look at the spokes they are cheaply made and easy to break.
Same thing goes for ROTAs, no REP wheels are going to take powder-coating well at all

Don't look at this as hating by any means, I love Rota/XXR, and I've ordered me a set of XXR 527's ;)

flamebird1313 I've always just painted with regular automotive duplicolor, as long as you don't sand/scuff down to bare aluminum any paint should hold up. Even if you do get to bare metal, you just have to scuff and clean with an alcohol/water solution within a few minutes of your first coat of primer.

I prefer to do the regular paint over dip or wheel paint because there are more options, and glossy colors look better (imo) on wheels.

Here's my focus wheels when I had it

And here's my new rx-8's wheels in black metallic I did

drewts86 Not sure how true it is, but I've heard horror stories about powdercoating alloy wheels. From what I've gathered, the heating (and cooling) of the alloy wheels during the powdercoat process needs to be carefully controlled. Otherwise it can lead to a weakening of the metal in the wheels. Knowing a little about the characteristics of metals, I do find this scenario very plausible.

sam fisher lol there is no comparison . if you have the ability to powdercoat then do it . dip is the cheapest way possible to paint them. powdercoat is probably the best way to go
