If that is true what FMC is telling about the 1700.00, I say try another agent for a shout out. I would think FMC would want to keep you happy. Or if nothing else works, buy a couple dozen lemons and string tie them to all the sheet metal on you car . Place the " Lemon'd " unit as close to the Dealership as possible with legality and write their name in bold letters ," Buy your next Ford from @#$%^%$#@ Dealership ". It sure worked for me. Only took me twenty mins. and a cup of coffee " What can we do for you to get it out of sight"? Twelves were the first yr. for electric steering. I'm sure that would be taken seriously with a judge. No more rant.

I have a 2012 Focus four door three years old now....75,000 miles....my power steeringe also went out took it to the dealership with the power steering failure.....couple hrs later they want 1,700 to replace what they called power steering gear box....warranty has expired at 60,000...I was ready for a bill but dang.....not 1,700 I feel like its my new car still because I have taken such good care of it....I did find there is a class action law suit with this problem I will be joining because it may be become a recall and I will get my money back.....I was scheduled just a couple days to have the recall on the shake it does when I take off...they said to reschedule that when the gear box gets done....my car I thought was nice is now a paper weight in front of my house and still have a couple years to pay on it....then last night they called me if I would like to trade it in......I told them no more Fords......after oil changes, new tires, all the things you to do to prevent break downs you get a gear box with only 75,000 the breaks and they want 1,700....if you buy a ford I suggest the extended warranty or don't buy one...

SoCalFF This happened to me again this past Sunday. Same thing driving slow in a parking lot. pulled it over turned car off then back on... all ok afterwards.
So Monday i took it in to Ford. They said they could not duplicate the issue. but updated the software and asked me to bring it back if it did it again. One this the service manager said stuck with me is that he said that my focus was not in the VIN number range to have this issue. So does this mean Ford knows about this ?!?!?!?!

Come on. My advice is to contact a lawyer because Ford is not going to stand by their vehicles and admit fault. These vehicles are dangerous and you are risking your life.
Bizzare, my regional manager (via Ford Service in a forum) helped me a lot.

SoCalFF This Failure just happened to me on Sunday i was in a parking lot looking for a spot to park so fortunately i was only going 10mph. When i saw a spot i noticed the fault on my dash then a few seconds after the steering was gone. i was like steering an old tractor without power steering. i went into the store when i came out i turned on the car and the fault was gone and steering was restored.
Im due for a service so i will have them take a look at it at my local dealer.

Just wanted to let everyone know that being contacted by a member of Ford in these forums means absolutely nothing. They putme in contact with someone named amber and someone named Chris who say they are regional managers. But it must be an honorary title because they've done nothing and apparently they are incapable of doing anything that could help. He spoke like he couldn't care less about the issues with the car or the problems with fords parts failing their customers. I asked for the name of his supervisor and he gave me an address to mail a letter to corporate like they don't receive email messages

Respect?

Think about the court's respect for your insurance payout at the trial. We live in a world of litigation. If you have a wreck in the Focus knowing that it has a steering problem, then through the Courts eyes , you will be the one responsible. Park it and let Ford figure it out.
