Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll give that a try this evening. I love intake noise, especially if all I want to do to make it quiet is throw the airbox lid back on.

I think my Focus sounds great with the resonator delete, but it only really makes noise from around 3,800 RPM on up. It would be nice to hear some intake noise farther down low on the power band.

Very interesting! Thanks for doing the research.

Does anyone have any factory airbox lids? I want an extra one to experiment with.

A true CAI won't. "CAI" is a term falsely applied to many intakes these days, IMO. If a CAI is pulling air from the bottom of the engine bay in open air (like AEM), the air entering the intake is not affected by the heat rising off the engine. There will still be some heat soak from the intake tube, but likely not any more than with the stock intake tubes.

BTW, I'm running the K&N 57s-4000 (the one with the lid on stock box, the hole in the filter & plug for the hole), and there is a very noticeable difference in the heat of summer plugged vs. unplugged. When unplugged, it will bog off the line. This same difference will be realized stock lid on vs. off, and is very likely even more noticeable, as even with the plug removed from my intake, some "cool" air is still being pulled from the snorkle area.

The good ones have heat shields and also make a seal with the hood. AEM feeds down to behind the front triangle grill.

Really not looking forward to going to work in that.
At that temp, you'd probably get heat-soak driving with no lid in stop & go traffic. I bet the intake would be nice and growly though :)
