compwrench If I take off too easy it feels a bit like clutch chatter, I have the update so I just push it to the floor to take off. Have learned to work the FBW lag pretty good.

Don't take me out of context. That was only a snipet of a post about a particular poster who had no real issues but was learning to drive his DCT. I know some have issues.

just dumped 2012 focus for 2013 mazda 3, very happy

I just gave up on my shuddering, shaking indecisive dual clutch transmission on my 2012 focus. The ford memo is garbage wherein they say all these symptoms are normal. Ask any recent years VW GTI owner, same type transmission, no such problems.

The mazda 3 skyactive engine and tranny are great, nice smooth shifts and down shifts, same great mileage-38, solid firm sporty suspension, solid feel to entire car.

you can read hundreds of consumer reviews on the mazda 3 and find very few complaints about engine and/or transmission.

whereas, sadly, you can read hundreds of focus transmission complaints here and also at and also at lemon law blog. not to mention focus owners are vocing their complaints

plus goto any car web site like, choose a 2012-2013 focus then click into customer reviews

try any dealer website, customer reviews.

I respect and admire the ford customer reps here and at the ford focus facebook page, they are sincerely trying to help. Meanwhile it seems that most ford dealers have a 4 page memo that all supervisors quote from when you report these problems. This transmission runs beautiful in VW and Audi models and does NOT have all these problems. Ford has the problem with ITS version.

in my opinion this is a national recall waiting to happen that sometimes requires tearing apart the transmission. Sadly you can find owners here that have had that done, only to see the problems come BACK in a few weeks to months.

try the mazda 3, you'll never regret it.

mildc3 dont, go look at something else, not focus hating but why pick the same car with the chance of having the same problem again? it dont make sense brah.

hi everyone

hi i try this s shift thing it work well but i still would like to know about the breaking time thing how long does it take my car has 19960 miles i both it with 19700 if anyone can help and how to know if my car need this update too my car was made in 12/11 i heard that cars before or build in august of the same year needed it but after that no so help me understand the car i like the car but the trans thing sucks a little

AZfocus2012 I believe there were no real transmission issues, just a learning curve on how to drive the DCT.

PDQEagle didn't read all the comments, but why take it back to the seller, unless they're a Ford dealer. Ford is responsible

I understand the manual shift (with the plus and minus keys).. just not the purpose of the standard S.
S automatic locks the transmission out of 6th gear and is more aggressive in downshifting and holding gears, where as D uses all six forward ratios all the time.

If you want to shift into 6th in regular S hit the plus toggle on the select shift lever to put the car into S manual mode and lock the car into 6th gear unless you accelerate too aggressively or slow down too much.
