Also, there are plenty of us out here who have early-production 2012's without any issues. Granted, in my case it likely helps I've had the dealer apply the latest firmware updates to the TCM and PCM, and I mix up my driving a lot (meaning I sometimes drive it like I stole it, and sometimes drive like a little old lady).
Hey, my bad Mike thanks. And no question, if you don't run into those problems, the focus is a aggressive, quick, sporty car with great gas mileage. Enjoy !

before you buy another focus, please take as much time as needed to read them. Please pay special attention to all the folks getting repairs and then having the problems come back in weeks to months.

First let me start by saying, I LOVE this car. The power that it has for this type of sedan (coupled with the MPG and enough space for my four-member family).

The issue? This past Friday I began experiencing the transmission slipping during low speeds. Mostly upon take off. After doing some research on the vehicle, it doesn't appear to be normal. I do understand that this vehicle has two manual transmissions that shifts electronically. However, once again, when you're stopped and you begin to take off slowly - the vehicle jerks around while trying to upshift. It's actually pretty scary when trying to pull out into oncoming traffic.

Anyway, I'm going back to Carmax today. They have agreed to let me swap out the vehicle for another. I really want to believe that I had picked a bad egg and simply choose another Focus.

However, the wife doesn't think this is a good idea. Are transmission issues wide on this vehicle? I've also looked at the 2012 Cruze LT and the 2012 Hyundai Accent GLS. All three vehicles are around the same price with the same MPG.

Jstro13 Get in car. Drive car. Its either smooth and comfortable or its not. I'm an end user, not a mechanic. I shouldn't have to care about these things. I'll have Ford look at it and hopefully the fine for mechanics that they employ can figure out the issue.

Exactly which calibration (firmware) does your PCM and TCM have?
The people who are cocky enough to say that the DCT transmission is straight up garbage usually have no idea.

Based on my own experiences, it makes a big difference.

Sounds good. Once the key comes in, and you have the appointment set up, go ahead and send me your VIN, best daytime phone number, full name, and dealer name/location. I'll look into this further.

Jstro13 Hi Meagan, I just bought the car last week. I went to order a new key, so when the key comes in I'm going to have them take a look at it. The car has 48k on it.

No automatic should feel like it's being driven by a 16 year old boy who just "learned" how to drive stick. I can't wait for the recall. I've never had a worse case of buyers remorse in my life.
Hi Jstro13,

I want to see how I can best assist. When was the most recent trip to your dealer? Please let me know, along with your mileage.
