Not cheaply - there is windshield tint that is 90% or 70% but ceramic or similar for good heat rejection ...

aemik I've been pulled over twice with tint on, and on both occasions I rolled down both the front and rear driver's side windows, and I had no issues. They just want to see into the car to make sure they're not going to be shot. I don't see that as particularly unreasonable...

grantfitz I wouldn't worry too much about getting pulled over for a darker than legal tint. I think WI is 50/35 and I put 20 on all around when I got the car in March 2012, no problems. Just don't drive like a jackass kid and treat officers with respect if you get pulled over.

aemik I personally think that having the rear hatch visibly darker than any other window on the car is a little bit goofy looking. I have a fairly light windshield tint, slightly darker on the front windows, and then slightly darker still on the rear windows (same as, and including the hatch).

If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably just use the front-window tint strength everywhere save the windshield. And frankly, after moving into the country where it gets properly-freakin'-dark at night, I kind of regret the windshield tint. That said, mid-summer, I love it. Can't have it all, I suppose.

Tiger-Heli You didn't post the law correctly.

GA is nothing on the windshield and 32% everywhere else (lower is darker).

Ohio 2014/2015 Tint Laws

New Ohio Revised Tint Law! - Shop Owners Forum - TintDude Forum

Windshield tint is technically illegal in OH.

50% is legal, but shops are liable and it is 50% for the tint and any OEM tint, so many shops will only install 70% on the front windows.

Not sure which windows you are talking about, but it depends what you want on the car and whether you are going for looks or heat rejection.

The best look to me would be uniform - i.e. 70% all around.

The back window you could get away with darker and if you mainly want privacy/performance you could go 70-50-20 or 70-30-20 (Front side - rear side - rear hatch).

ExplodingRat I tried skimming for an answer, so sorry if this I redundant.

Getting my tint done tomorrow for my hatchback. Ohio state law has me keep the windshield and driver side window at 70% light (30% dark).

For styling sake, do I go with 70 on the front 3 windows, and 30-50 for the back 5 (including the little windows in the back)? Or 70-50-30, progressively getting darker?

I've seen a few different methods but I was having a hard time finding some of the Ohio Focus'. Thanks for any advice given!

RonMaiden I really like the 5% all around but I couldn't see crap at night and in a lively neighborhood you really had to be aware when backing up.

I'm very happy with 20% (15% over factory tint on the sunroof and 15% on back) all around. $230 lifetime and I feel comfortable they will be around for that lifetime since they tinted my Eclipse over 20 years ago.

BlkRidr Thanks! Went for similarity and didn't want to go with dark on the passenger doors and back and lighter up front. The tint shop would have done it, but advised about going too dark since it might not pass inspection in many shops and the troopers carry light meters (surprised to hear HPD and constables do not..). I know some guys who have been stopped because their tint was too dark up front

Yup. Between the troopers and some of the inspection stations using the light measuring tools it a crap shoot down here. Mine 25% Ford factory tint on my TI Hatch. Has DOT and a Texas certification number on it.
