I went with the Sport Edition Rims and Blizzak. I did go for the TPMs.
On my Mustang I went with rims with out the TPMS. I parked my car in the garage. The rims with tires that were on the car sat close to the Mustang. They were filled. As long as I drove less than 20 minutes from the house the sensor in the car dd not go off. I guess the car "sees" the rims in garage every morning. After 15-20minutes the car has "separation anxiety."
I know the Mustang does not alter the car's performance if the sensors go off, but some cars do. Not sure if the Focus, being as sophisticated as it is, does.

Thanks! I expect the fault warning message every year I put on my winter tires & rims that don't have sensors installed. Normally, I just get a ding sound, the warning message and I hit the reset button and it goes away until the next time I start up. This time however, I also got the warning light staying on and it won't go away. So am concerned something else is going on.

Well I have had my new Wheels and Winter Tires (yokohama IG20) installed on the ST for 5 days and about 180 miles and no TPMS light has come on? (knock on wood) I had Discount Tires Direct (DTD) install the TPMS sensors on the new wheels ($168) and all I did was remove the OEM wheels and tires and install the ones from DTD.
Still no TPMS light is been 10 days :)
knock on wood again...
Update Still no TPMS Sensor lights and its been two weeks, kn on wood again, guess the system recognized the new sensors with no reset. Go figure.

|gtncpa||I have the tool and used it last year when I put on my snows. I put my snows on this year ... in the snow ... so I did not get a chance to "wake up" the TPMS in the snows. After 20 miles of driving the car noticed they old tires were not on and threw a code. I continued to drive and after another 25 miles it found the sensors and now they are found!|

Discount offered a TPMS rebuild for $32 and they reset them of course if you were having them swap your winter tires onto the OEM rims or steelies.
When I bought my new wheels I wanted new TPMS also since I wanted to sell the OEM 16"s with the original TPMS (a better deal for the buyer) and the in-store price was pretty crazy for new units but when I priced them on their website they were much cheaper and I got the store to match the on-line price which saved me over $300 on the whole package but alot of that savings was from the cheaper priced TPMS.
Also check around for places that might reset your TPMS cheaply but I do know the Discount Tire locally has done them for free for just drop-in customers just like they fix flats for free even if you didn't buy the tires from them.

You would probably have a hard time finding a dealership to disengage the sensors all together because it's a "safety issue" Just like they say not to fool you brake sensors with a piece of wire to complete the circuit. Because we can't tell when are brakes are going bad unless our computers tell us...
On the plus side, the Fordtrigger tool is only $35 now.

|Geezer||Flybigrc.......why not 215/55-16? Yes, they cost a little more than the 205's but are less than the 225's and they are, more or less, the perfect diameter (nearly identical to the stock 18's).|

I have the 18" PS3's on my Ti. I went with 195 60 16's for snow tires. I got the Blizzaks. Despite the size difference they are the same overall diameter and did not require a speedo adjustment.
Skinnier tires are better in the snow. I put 18,000 on my Blizzaks last year and love them.

205/60R-16 or suggested 225/55-R16
I was pricing wheels and winter tires on the tirerack site and found that there was quite a bit difference in price of the tires based on a slight size difference.
General Altimax Artic
205s $86 each
225s $115 each
total price difference of $116!
Also, when you use Tirerack's speedo conversion calculator the 205s are off by less then the 225s because of the additional sidewall height (60 compared to 55).
Also, I have read that a skinnier winter tire is preferred for the snow.
Anyone have any reasons to go with the 225s instead of the 205s?

|gtncpa||It will fool them for about 20 miles. Then the warning will go off. At least that is what happens with my Mustang.|
