ViperThreat That's disturbing, and a complete invasion of peoples privacy. It doesn't affect me much because I dont play any console games, but if that somehow ever came to light, Id be sure to point the camera at a inappropriate picture for Microsoft's viewing pleasure.

mikebontoft I dont like this at all.

so basically they are trying to squeeze out every possible penny they could make. Limit the number of times you can watch something, limit the number of people watching, require extra licenses! what the hell?!

looks like I'm gonna go ahead and keep any Microsoft products with cameras attached to them out of my possession. unfortunately that means no camera on my next laptop. fine by me.

Microsoft patents tech that watches viewers

I was always creeped out about the possibility of this with the Kinect, which is why it is in the closet now.

The technology works by using cameras (no explicit mention is made of the Kinect or a Kinect successor) found in home and mobile devices to take still or moving images of the consumers and their environment. The system then compares the number of viewers visible in the frame with the licensing terms attached to the product; prompting watchers to purchase additional licenses (as required) for each person watching.
