freemind I bought a no name ebay shifter and it held up for two years. It is a giant drag to have your car stuck in a parking lot. Buy a Steeda(one of our fine vendors here)STS and save the original just in case FTW.

zetecDon Steeda or B&M are good in my book. Just shop around and check the prices. I wouldn't spend to much on it though. I got my B&M a few years ago for only $40 when someone was cleaning out their shop of all Focus related products.

Fluffy6079 In that case, what shifter do you guys recommend? At this point, I'm thinking of going with Steeda (which is what I have now).

ah1f39 Sell the early STS and get the right one.

The newer version is a better design. I recently changed from the early to the later design after 19mo of not being able to get it(the early shifter) adjusted. Upon installing the newer shifter it was adjusted perfectly the first time in less than 5min.

To install the early shifter you would need:
early shifter base
early cables
early MTX75 gear selector
early MTX75 cable mounting bracket

Cost on these parts is well over $500

Fluffy6079 Yeah, I found out about the difference right after it arrived when I was looking for instructions on installation. I ran out to the car and found out mine had been built in May 2002. :/ So close....

zetecDon You need 25 posts and 30 days to post anything in the B-S-T section. Please don't try to sell it in here as it is against our rules.

Now as to your shifter ordeal. I think it was after April 2002 that they had changed the part for the shifters. I know I had ordered the wrong one as well. When I got it in and went to install it, parts weren't lining up. That is when I realized that they had sent me the wrong one. lol Live and learn.

Fluffy6079 I bought it from a guy on here. I guess as soon as my 30 days are up I'll put it up for sale here on the forums. If anyone's interested until then, let me know.

freemind Where did you buy it from?
10-24-2012 06:35 PM
Fluffy6079 I was afraid that was the answer.

iminhell Sell it and buy the correct one.
