ProjectCommuter I bought my car used. It only had one key with it and it was programmed as a "MyKey". I want to get another key from ebay but what do I need to do to make it an Admin Key and/or erase the "MyKey" on the other? Can anyone help?

slbenz Got my replacement key via eBay today for $30. Now it is time to find an auto locksmith in my area who can program and cut the key. Anyone know a good one in the Fremont, CA area?

slbenz I would agree that $175 for a key like the one that came with my car is too much. It is not one of those smart keys but the one with the built-in keyless remote. The dealer that I purchased the car from only had one key to the car. So I guess I will be going to eBay to order a replacement key and find a local locksmith.

The Saab was starting to become a money pit with all the electrical issues that kept stranding me locally and on road trips. Technology in cars sure have come a long way in 12 years.
Your 2012 Focus came with only 1 key ? My 2005 zx5 SES came with 2 keys and 2 electronic commands . 175$ for a single key is way too much, I paid 85$ at my local Ford Dealer for a 2003 Focus Key 2 years ago.

Yep...I was given only one key when I bought mine...glad the dealer found the other after the fact!

Fluffy6079 The Focus I have came with a purple/ pink key. I have no idea why someone went out of their way for this when they bought it new (I'm the second owner), but I'll just live with it. They want way too much for a replacement.

elsolo Stories like these are why I decided a while back to buy a third key and get it cut, program it myself with the two other working keys; just as cheap insurance. It was about $10 total cost

1
Sit in the car with the doors shut and unlocked, and with your seat belt fastened to avoid interference from the seat belt reminder chime.

2
Put the key in the ignition, and turn it from position one ("Off") to position three ("On") rapidly eight times within 10 seconds, ending in position three.

3
The Ford Focus doors will lock and unlock automatically, signaling that the car is in remote keyless entry programming mode.

4
Within 20 seconds, press any button on each keyless remote. After each remote is programmed, the car doors will automatically lock and unlock to confirm successful programming. When all remotes have been programmed, turn the ignition to position one. The doors will automatically lock and unlock, confirming that remote keyless entry programming is complete
^^ THIS..
I have used this method a the time even while working at the dealership and it works 100%

Great info BTW
