|TerryB||You'll need new wires if you get a stock coil. I think wires for the MSD are different.|

|pbeam27||I forgot to mention I have an MSD coil pack. Dont know if that changes anything. It has been on my car for at least 80K miles. At one point it was laying down on the t-stat housing for I don't know how long due to the bracket breaking.|

Look close for physical small cracks on coil in the plastic, that often is an indicator moisture has gotten into it. Almost all the ones I change have that. Apparently they get hot enough then spit guts out on load.
You can power up the middle contact with 12V and then alternately ground and then break ground to either side terminal with 2 grounded plugs/plug wires to check for spark or no. That would get you to being able to start car probably, but will not prove out missing under load from the cracks. Known good coil swap out is the only test there............

There may be. But with the cost of a new one I don't feel it's really worth anyone's time to go through a real diagnosis if they feel the coil is kaput.
I'd just make sure the pigtail is undamaged, the capacitor thingy is not damaged, the grounds are secure. If all those check out and it still leads to a spark issue, just replace the coil.

Coil pack diag.
Is there a way to test and see if a coil pack is going bad? I don't have a scope so that's out of the question.
