KATES224 I had a 2004 honda civic prior to my 2012 focus. I've been in the shop more in 3 years than i probably ever was with my civic of 7 years. I have hated this car from the jump. My old car was totaled and didn't love the civic body style so went exploring for something different. It seemed like a good value with great features at the time. When i test drove it the car was great and none of the tranny issues reared their little heads. I was injured pretty badly from my accident and was going through all kinds of therapy and injections. After like a month i was dying. It hurt to drive bc it was so jerky all the time and the acting like it was stalling out i knew couldn't be healthy for the car. I took it in and was told that was normal. I was like great i have this car i can't get out of and its going to self destruct bc of crappy design in record time. About 6 months or so later i got that letter about ford extending the warranty on certain transmission and clutch components. I've tried numerous times to trade it in but i'd loose 5k of the $8300 i put down on this lemon. I've had to have speakers replaced. My window controls don't work all the time but as they don't have an issue when i'm actually taking it in nothing is done. However my window has been stuck in the down position countless times. I have had my a/c motor replaced. My car is now in for a new clutch and wheel bearings. My factory warranty runs out 10/6 and i'm dreading it. This is insane! I didnt purchase the extended warranty at time of purchase. I so regret this. I wish there was a magical way out of this vehicle where i could keep almost all of what i put down on it. I constantly am looking online over the past 3 years for trade in value and it looks like im just stuck. I don't know what i have to do to prove this car is a lemon but i swear whoever constructed this thing in the factory was probably stoned all the time or something.

Upon driving it, I found that when I would come to a stop and push the gas to go, it would sputter and hesitate. I have been dealing with it for over 2 weeks and decided to contact my dealership.

I took the vehicle to the shop on June 3rd. The tech drove with me and felt exactly what I was talking about. He stated that he had to put it on the computer. Within 30 minutes, he came out with a piece of paper stating 2012 Focus automatic transmission shudder. Some 2012 focus vehicles equipped with the powershift/DPS6 transmission may experience a shudder/shake on start up or when slowing to a stop. This condition does not cause durability or reliably concerns and will deminish as the clutch breaks in. "IF CUSTOMERS COMPLAIN OF THIS ISSUE, PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND SHARE THIS SERVICE MESSAGE WITH THE CUSTOMER.

My question was, how long does this go on and when will it stop? No on could answer. Has anyone else felt this issue? I could not find any post on this prior to me putting this up. I stated I do not feel safe in the vehicle. The car at times when I pull out on the road feels just like it will stall out. After sending an email to the VP of the dealership, I was contacted by the service manager. He stated that he is working on getting an answer from Ford.. At the time of service there were 781 miles on my car. Today there are 1291 and still nothing has changed. I am awaiting a reply and will move forward if I don't like the answer.

Also, yesterday while driving, my shoe lace got caught on brake peddle. Has anyone else ever gotten stuck on the brake peddle? Just curious. It freaked me out.
i have 31000 miles on my 2013 SE.. its in the shop...again for transmission fault/ failure. this is the 3rd or 4th time...i have lost count..each time the dealer has it, they blame something else on the surging, rough shifting and slipping.fuel mileage is down also...i got 43 mpg when i first got im lucky to see 25...if i could trade it in, it would be gone in a heartbeat..pun intended...good luck with sick of mine.

The Fusion uses a normal planetary automatic transmission with torque converter. The Focus uses a dry dual clutch automated manual transmission for its automatic transmission.

Dumpbuster Steve, the tranny was problematic for the first 60K I owned the car (yes it's a 2012 which I bought new) but since the 'fix' resulting from my getting to the honchos at Ford, it has been flawless. I don't think it will strand you before the 'fix' is accomplished. It never did me.

steveg1 love the car SE sport, heated leather seats, 16" machined alloys, 4wheel disc brakes, fog lights. just got to do something about this tranny. dont feel confident to go to far from home

steveg1 sounds electrical to me but who knows what ford is going to say

Dumpbuster I had my 2012 SE in 5 times for the problem and then, after rattling my swords with Ford's honchos in the Dearborn headquarters, I got a quick response and they overnighted the parts needed for the repair. The dealer advised me I was lucky since, "the parts are on backorder until late in the year." The 'fix' made with the special shipment from Ford worked and 4K miles later, it is shifting perfectly with none of the earlier shifting problems originally explained away as 'normal for this transmission'.
