Cfcastro I have a titanium 5 door. Although there is not technically a groove on the console, the apple cord still has room to pass through the closed console if you ensure to put it either to the right- or left- most part of the opening where the latch mechanism is located. I just found this out by chance when I accidentally shut the console w/ my iPhone connected and sitting in the cup holder.

Stars4jon I use one similar to this. And I use the plug from the back of the center console. My friend Christian picked it for me at Target.

That's the thing though -- On the Titanium the USB and AUX inputs are inside the console, as well, and there's no routing groove in the console at all.

It must be different on the S/SE. There's nothing like that at all on the Titanium...it's unfortunate.

^This, and is the best option. Makes it easy to place the phone where you want it, no cable pinched in the console lid, and much tidier.

When you close the lid a plastic "tooth" drops down into that groove and goes all the way to the bottom. The better part is the corners of the lid don't close tightly, so I just leave the cable sitting on the corner when I close the lid.
This is what I do on my SEL too. It's not perfect, but at least my USB cable doesn't get messed up like it was when I tried routing out the middle of where the lid closes. This is definitely an oversight on Ford's end though because most cars offer a actual cutout for things like this (especially if all the media connections are located IN the center console).

It's a way of stopping the hinge from breaking from people pushing the console horizontally.
No, its definitely a cable guide. It's off center to the pass side, about 5/8" deep, and there is nothing on the lid that corresponds to it. There is also no notch like you describe on either the lid or console for "centering".
