Cob1975 Thanks BC_ZX3,
Just had a look at CPP switch and seems to test OK but was a bit sticky.Going to replace it anyway just in case.Sprayed it to free up a bit and took for a drive with no fault showing so hopefully on the right track.
Haven't looked again for filter a bit wet a the moment here.
Thanks again.Finger crossed.

BC_ZX3 P1709 is applicable to autos and manuals. DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) definition is shown below.
PNP = Park/Neutral Position
CPP = Clutch Pedal Position
Start by testing the CPP switch; it's a simple on/off toggle switch.
The fuel filter is mounted under the car ahead of the fuel tank on North American models. (Trace the metal fuel line back from the engine bay back.)

P1709 - Park/Neutral Position Switch Out of Self-Test Range
The DTCs indicate that the voltage is high when it should be low.
Causes:
PNP/CPP circuit short to PWR
Damaged PNP or CPP switch
PNP/CPP circuit open in the SIGRTN
Damaged PCM
When exercising either the PNP or CPP switch the voltage should cycle from 5.0V to low

Focus 2006 LX Engine Fault Light

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to know if anyone out there has had this problem.
Engine fault light coming on randomly but lately coming on almost straight away.When this happens engine develops a random surge.Surge seems to disappear under acceleration.Engine light remains on until engine turned off.
Mechanic has put meter on it and apparently came up as P1709 which is a auto trans fault but car is manual and they can't clear fault.Another mechanic could not find any trouble code faults.

Have attempted to replace fuel filter but location is a mystery:-
Not near fuel tank
Not under rear seat
Not in engine bay
Assuming inside fuel tank but haven't been there yet.

PLEASE HELP as mechanics are at a loss

Thanks in advance
