Deleted snorkel and installed cbe

I own a 2015 SE hatchback with the 200A equipment group and the SE Sport Package.

I removed the snorkel and replaced the filter with an AEM in the stock housing. There was not much change in the sound. I noticed a "smoothing" of the low range acceleration in slow traffic. Prior to the mod, the car would balk in off idle to fifteen to twenty mph. Definitely an improvement.

I just replaced the oem exhaust system with a Magnaflow cbe. On the current fill up of 87 octane the average mileage is indicating 37 mpg.

Thanks.
I can't see how modifying the airflow could possibly affect engine life. If it did I believe it would be minuscule.

Reilly I did the snorkel delete and installed a AEM Dryflow filter last year (on my 2014 SE hatchback) and I have been very happy with the outcome. I have reduced the annoying lag at takeoff to the point that I no longer have to concentrate coming off the clutch in order not to stall (I would call it a 90% improvement). I think the clutch pedal has become less stiff which also helps with 'feel' (my Focus had 4 miles on it when I purchased it and now has 23K...it seems to have 'broken in' if that's possible...but at any rate the car is much more pleasurable to drive now.

I removed the entire snorkel but did not cut flaps etc...I also left the stock airbox when I installed the Dryflow air filter...if there was a slight difference in noise, I no longer hear it (I'm used to it). The same goes for MPGs....no noticeable difference.

My question is...Does removing the entire snorkel have any negative effects on the durability of the engine? I ask because I see that some have cut their snorkel and reinstalled it.
Thanks.

Anyone know the cheapest way to get Green filters in Australia? The cheapest I can find a K&N is for about $95 but the end isn't open so not sure if it will do as well?
SuperCheapAuto sometimes has it on sale, got mine for $70.

Jburks I doubt it would be a noticeable gain over just the stock air box with a open ended filter.

nolanm Hi Guys, I've done the snorkle delete but not yet put a new filter in there and I've noticed my fuel efficiency has dropped by about 60km/tank, is this to be expected and will it be fixed with a new filter?
I've been quoted $150 to get a focus RS airbox (welcome to australia prices) and then a green filter would be approx $80 more, but I've seen the FSWerks intake includes a green filter with it. Even though it doesn't look open ended from the pictures, would they been the same filter? Which would provide better gains?

Elixer Yeah, the AEM one is still advertised as being reusable. I'll take a look locally as well, see if there's one that has been mentioned that has a good sale on it or something.

Jburks i think you still clean the AEM you just dont oil it.
