Excerpt from the book has been posted, which thread is the question (here or in MkIII).
Pattern is the normal rotation starting from the center and working outwards, final snug down to "tight" is adequate.
As I type that I realize that many may have not seen a typical torque rotation pattern, starting from the center and working outwards in a criss cross or spiral pattern. Tighten to touching, then to snug, then to tight.

Very true, who even has these, need to be rented. I did a search for this TSB and didn't find it, I was sure ford had told me there was a TSB when they repaired mine. Anyway I would follow ford service manual to do this correct.

Agreed, particularly on the sealant added at the sharp corners where the gasket changes directions vertically.
The problem seen all too often with use of a torque wrench is lack of familiarity with that as well. So called common sense goes out the window when looking to get an exact number, even if the number is for the wrong item or just incorrect.
Few have the inch/lb beam type torque wrench that's easiest to use on those tiny fasteners, pull out a click type ft/lb one at minimum setting and it's out of it's accuracy range. Way too easy to twist them off before knowing it. Once you start putting pressure on that long lever it's already too late

Seal on these is NOT affected by torque of the fasteners, it tightens down to solid contact between cover & head with the squish of the gasket in it's channel providing the seal.
Tighten too much & break fasteners.
