|Old Goat Ninja||After another day, car isn't all that different than stock. Crisper and no stumbling like post above me mentions, so it's totally worth it just for that. I'm going to remove the cap. Hard acceleration is noticeably better with cap off. I'm going to find a way to measure distance from top of air box to hood when closed, and then run some rubber seal or something across top of air box and battery box. The more I look at it, the more I realize not much air is going over to open end side of filter when hood is closer. An inch or so of rubber seal should do it. Then I have benefits of open end with no hot engine heat, and snorkel removal. Should be easy enough to do. Might not be overly pretty when hood is open, but this isn't an open hood kinda car anyways haha.|

A sort of reverse of opening it all up. I am trading in my MK3 SE (for a ST) and put the stock air filter back on last week. Took off the ST velocity stack too. (but did not reinstall the giant OEM snorkle)
So with the stock air filter i again have some off idle stumbling. (Which I had ZERO of with the K&N air filter)
The other thing is my MPG went up 2 from 32mpg to 34mpg.
Otherwise the car is OK.
I am looking forward to having a bit more 'oomph' when I get the ST.

|danbfree||Nice, thanks for the update. Makes me feel vindicated in choosing the AEM dryflow for only $39 and confirming what I had heard about the open end filter. Glad to help out! :-)|

Ok. So today I drove to work with open end filter. I like the sound. Gets weird in certain situations, but as a whole, I like it. On way home, I installed cap. Almost as quiet as stock now. Bummer. Anyways, it does feel better with cap on. Acceleration seemed crisper and more instant.
My commute is roughly 20 miles one way, no freeway, lots of stop lights, and a few stretches where traffic hits 75mph (middle of no where near an airport, lots of lanes). No corners, at all. Literally a straight line to work. Anyways, other than lack of any corners what so ever, my commute has a lot of variety in driving. So far, I prefer driving it with cap on. Sounds way better off though.

i have the green open ended filter. any way for me to buy some generic type of cap that would fit on?
i'd maybe throw it on in the summer (like people said) or hwen i want it quieter.
i find it alot louder under accel, especially at certain rpms it seems to resonate quite a bit. it was enough for my wife to roll her eyes ;) for the most part i enjoy the loudness though. i find i'm sticking to sport mode and thumbing through the gears alot more.
