Gi_Jo_Nathan If you're really worried get an Outerwears filter cover.
I've run them on my bikes and truck before.

FFhb13 Thanks guys...will leave it in for now, especially until I decide what I'm doing with the intake...I might use the MST hose, remove the stock airbox and design my own pipe routing the intake more into the lower fender area.

Good to know; 2 years and no problems may be enough for me to start a new delete. Thanks!

There's no proof of benifit from having the shroud removed, but if anything, it should only help. I've thought about doing it as well, but I'm on the highway(s) way too much to chance it.

Two things I've noticed: slightly louder engine note, and slight throttle response. That's it, but I still think the mod was worth it. Oh, and it may have helped MPG's.

Scougar That rubber section just looks like it seals the plastic section attached to it.

The thing I feel the most is quicker throttle response. I don't notice much of an increase in intake noise but I didn't really expect to as the filter is still enclosed in the stock air box.

I have the AEM & snorkel delete. I noticed an increase in engine note, and the throttle response was improved as well.
