Also you want to keep it as light as possible, since adding extra weight is not going to do you any favors.
Look in your trunk and see if there is any unnecessary items that you are carrying daily and remove these.
The bottom of the focus isn't the smoothest in the world but I would compare it to a German sedan. Major difference is we dont have a splash pan directly under the engine. Really they are quite similar minus the fwd/rwd. How much benefit that would bring? I dont know. I do know there's not a BMW on our lot that can touch my fuel mileage fwiw

If I take it easy, I can get my Focus up to 45MPG. I REALLY drove it easy, did the coasting thing and never went above 50mph ... and actually hit 50MPG (50.3).
Gotta drive it very lightly.
A belly pan would have to be secured and kept away from the cat and exhaust, but it has potential. I've been considering getting some old signs and making a belly pan for it. I think it's doable.
The other thing is, blocking off of the upper grille. A lot of peopple have had favorable results by blocking off the "upper" grille on the two grille bottom breathing cars.

Leave early and slow down!
You should know your mileage eventually starts to drop anywhere above 55-65mph.
Though honestly I believe that is a myth.
My old car was a 4 speed auto, it shifted at like 70mph into 4th gear.
So me going 5-6 over the 65mph speed limit caused it to shift up and drop in RPMs.
I guess really,it just depends on the car and when it shifts

|Gettysburg150||Also on a side note, I have a set of Saab turbo wheels that are supposed to be designed for better brake cooling/venting. My snow wheels are currently on these and I gained back one mpg from the loss of having snow tires, if that makes any sense lol. I swear they decreased drag since the weight is about the same but I can't really confirm this without a wind tunnel|

Well at any rate the company paid for my fuel. This is only an example. You drive a lot of miles, so take my example and multiply it by 52 weeks. Now multiply it by the expected life of your vehicle. At 52 weeks you're looking at either saving $416 in fuel or 104 hours over a year. Now add in the increased wear at operating a vehicle at higher speeds. Its all perspective and what you want. If you want fuel savings lower speed will grant you that, case and point

420 miles / 75 mph = 5.6 hours
420 miles / 55 mph = 7.64 hours
420 miles / 37 mpg = 11.35 gallons
420 miles / 45 mpg = 9.33 gallons
So can either save 2 hours of travel time or 2 gallons of gas.
At $4 per gallon, the 2 hours costs you $8........
How much is 2 hours of your time worth?

|Gettysburg150||Slow down. I average 40+ mpg when I drive at 55 mph and shift at 2000rpm. On a recent trip to Jersey, round trip 420 miles, I averaged 37 mpg at an average speed of 75mph. My mods are FRPP suspension (springs/struts/shocks) and wider 205/60r15 Michelin MXV4 tires set to 37 psi|

This is where I learned alot on this matter.
I suggest lowering it, 3dcarbon front lip, Lighter flatter wheels with high rolling tires...
But the most effective change would be driving habits. You would yield much better mpgs simply by cutting back 6mph to where the car shifts up but at the lowest rpms..
