blank102 I hope their fuel system is better than the one on my ( soon to be gone) GMC diesel.

mjd4277 It's mostly because of the regulations involved. The U.S. has some of the most stringent emissions rules in the world when it comes to vehicles(especially diesels). As a consequence, most manufacturers can't justify selling diesel engines in passenger cars due to the certification costs and passing said costs on to consumers(so far VW and M-B are the only ones willing to push the envelope). Also, diesel fuel is more heavily taxed than gasoline is here in the U.S. so operating costs also come into play for a lot of consumers.

From what I understand, there's also a lot of industry protection going on as well as the U.S's culturally averse view of 'diesels = stinky bus'.

I hear Mazda is putting a Diesel in the US, part of Ford?

"Auto line Detroit" had a Ford guy on and said Ford will not persue the Diesel in US but Mazda will 2013, Ford said there happy with there eco boost engine. I think Mazda is laying the ground work for Fords small Diesel program. I think...

RedComet I'd rather drive a little 1.4 or 1.6L turbo-diesel Fiesta.

scott7278 I would be all over a Ford Focus diesel. I don't know if I would be one of the first ones to buy a GM passenger-car diesel...they're 0 for 1 in that department.
