Montag It looks fine for what it is. Every other subcompact is just as ugly. Nobody drives a car like this for style unless they're delusional. I'm sure the power is fine too considering the car's weight and the turbocharged torque curve. So quit bitching and get me some mpg numbers.

The Focus made more horsepower 12 years ago (less torque and at higher RPM vs. the turbo engine, yes). I guess if the only thing the buyer gives a damn about is maximum fuel efficiency given the available engine options, and lives in a flat city, things are fine. Just sayin'.

And just to clarify, I'm not saying the engine is a bad engine or anything... just that I've had my fill of slow gutless cars over the years. Fuel economy be damned, I'm tired of driving things that can barely get out of their own way. So this car would not be for me. And to comment on the post below... the car looked great in its original form, it was actually a very stylish car (at least in hatchback form). The problem is Ford did the usual car manufacturer tricks of trying to update a design on a minimal budget (mid cycle refresh or whatever they call it) and tacking on the current grille doesn't flow with the rest of the unchanged body design.

warneej Has anyone seen the engine?

Anyone who has ever made fun of the Duratec for being a rat's nest can kindly shut up now lol. Also the 1.0L is the first Duratec to have the exhaust in the front...

We want little diesels but they won't bring them here because of stringent regulations on small diesel engines intentionally passed during the GWB era. Big trucks that suck diesel at 6-8mpg don't fall under the same regs- only passenger vehicles. Bringing little diesels here so that Americans could get more than 40 mpg would be tantamount to trying to overthrow the US government. It's just NOT PATRIOTIC!!! The only manufacturers who sell little diesels here are foreign- damn Germans, really. Who wants a twin turbo Mercedes I4 diesel with 190 hp and 367 tq? Not Americans, nope, we got to support our poor subsidized oil companies and their politicians. Give us a >3.0 V6 and talk about how it gets good gas mileage in the mid 20's with more hp than some minute diesel! That's American!
This Post is full of WIN!

I read the article; OK so overall as used in the European Focus, they liked it. But the bottom line I pulled from that story is the 0-60 time is in the same ballpark as my Transit Connect. That's not good.

Although, I dunno, maybe it is... driving a slow vehicle forces you to be a more thoughtful and considerate driver. You really have to plan ahead and anticipate other drivers' behavior. Because otherwise, they will crash into your slow vehicle and you will die.
