zetecDon The Focus never came with a distributor. As someone had said earlier that the stock coil pack has been proven to work fine on applications up and beyond 600 HP. It doesn't even matter about having the JRSC either. Just stick with what came on the car.

BigRed03 the stock coil is proven to 600+whp.

and iirc, give better voltage to plugs than an MSD coil when plugs gaps are set larger for NA (atleast in the SVT world).

Magus2727 the Zetec never had a distributor... did it? those started to get phased out when OBD2 started. I know my 01 came with a coil pack stock...

As far a coil packs go they can allow for a "cleaner" spark so it will idle smoother in some cases. but you don't get a performance improvement when going with a different coil pack. Stock vs scream'n demon vs MSD are all the same until you start getting into the high boost applications. i think its safe to say the JRSC even with the boost kit is a boost application but is not a "high" boost.

Distributor or Coil Pack ?

Hey guys,
I am currently running a ford racing coil pack in my zx3 with FR wires and copper core plugs. I switched to the coil pack when I was overhauling the engine. After getting some advice, I was asked why I changed out the distributor if it was giving me no problems and was made to run the 2.0 zetec with no problem. I did not have an answer, just thought it was an upgraded part. The focus is also fitted with a JRSC and boost kit.
