Low compression is normal for svt from what I'm told, due to the VCT.

Thanks for the input Matt. I had another look at the cams and there's no way that the bar will go in with the cams the other way round. I turned the engine round until it hit the pin and the bar slipped in very easily so I'm thinking this is right.
So the timing is right and I've changed the plugs and wires.

I don't know what to try next.

Any ideas?

Davva Ok guys, I'm really stuck now.

I stuck the pin in and turned the engine to TDC. Then I took the valve cover off and I checked the slots on the cams. They seem to be right where they should be. I slotted a bar in there and it fits in nicely. (it's not the proper bar but it's 4.5mm and the slot is 4.9mm so I think that's ok or does it HAVE to be real tight in there?)

I just did a compression check and the cylinders are all at 50PSI. That's way low according to most of the figures I've seen previously. But what would cause ALL of them to be that low? I'm confused.

I really don't know what to do next so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Davva

edit: I've taken a pic of the bar in the cam slots. It's in my album. The pin is in the engine and I cranked the engine round to TDC. The bar and the slots look right to me. Can someone confirm this for me please?

What is the best way to get the cam timing correct?

And is there any way to check it?

flaurencelle Looks like you forgot to connect back the IMRC Throttle Cable on the Intake Manifold. Look to the right of the Manifold. Anyway, you must remember having removed this cable in the first place!

The IMRC will pull the cable when the engine starts, therefore the Intake lenghts is shorter and this is why you get this code. Might also affect the idle.

Hopefully your IMRC is still good..! I have doubts if you had the code before you replaced the gasket! Look around on the forum, most of the time its easy to fix (A bit of electronics).

Other than that.. check your connections and vaccuums. I removed the Intake several times and I did get bad hesitation because i forgot some vacuums and connections.

Good luck!

SVT running but only just

Hi All

I have just replaced my head gasket and put the car all back together and it will start and run but only just. I have to keep the gas pedal pressed or the car will just cut out.
I replaced the water pump, serp belt, timing belt, both tensioners, plugs and wires while I was there
I'm getting 1518 and 1520 codes on the OBD.

I was getting the 1520 before the gasket blew so I don't think that's what's making it run so rough but I don't know for sure.

I'm not sure where to start diagnosing this so hence this post.

What would be the best way to fault find this?

Thanks

Davva
