PRSman25 Well, I finally picked up a Focus.

2001 ZX3 manual with 116k miles. KN 57 series intake, SVT (I think) header and exhaust work. Very nicely kept. Power everything etc etc. It needs the headlamps restored and a few little things like that, but its pretty awesome I think.

touchy For my 2000 ZX3 with 165,xxx, I've had to replace the following:
  • Front Struts/Springs (one of the springs snapped)
  • Coolant reservoir (blisterd and started leaking on the underside)
  • Lower Radiator Hose To Water Pump Connector (Part #8290)
  • Various Coolant Hoses
  • Thermostat Housing (once at 60,xxx, and again at 160,000)
  • Timing Belt / Serpentine Belt
  • Motor Mounts (twice)
  • Corroded Battery Cable
  • Ignition Cylinder

Mostly general maintenance stuff, but overall it's been a reliable vehicle. Also a note on the ignition cylinder, when mine locked up, it was from the wafer retainer. I just removed the wafers (probably insecure but still requires PATS to start), replaced the retainer, and I haven't had a lock up sense. It still requires a ford style key to be inserted, and I can remove the key whilst the vehicle is 'on' but it works good enough.

PRSman25 See you live in Ohio Mr. 02Zetechse (with an H I might add!) whereas I live in Florida, and I've read up on the wheel bearing issue, and it seems that the vast majority of them are coming from Northern states that see quite a bit of snow and thus see a lot of salty roads. Am I right?

But I shall definitely go OEM if they appear to be an issue. Thanks for the heads up!

I'm actually going to check out a couple ZX3s tomorrow. Super stoked about it.

02Zetechse just a bit of info , its Zetec , no H on it ... I have had to replace several rear wheel bearings in mine, go OEM right off

PRSman25 Alternators are so expensive on these things ><

Taking the tumblers out seems like the easiest and quickest fix, am I right?
I might go with the upgraded Explorer cylinder from a locksmith though...

D34TH_v69 I've got the 2.0 zetech. I dont think you can really tell just by looking at it If its broken, mine looked normal when it broke. When mine broke the key got stuck in the ignition and I couldn't get it out or turn it at all. Idk what my step dad did to get it out but now it works fine. If you know how to do it just take the tumblers out of the cylinder, I haven't had a problem since we did that and didn't cost me anything. If you have the cylinder with the hole in the middle u don't have to worry.
