joecicalese FYI, I've gotten this letter at least a dozen times since I started tooling around with cheap cars in my youth. Never responded to a single one, never had a problem. Even if there was a problem, I would just explain that I buy broken cars and make them nicey.

Vuj311 I hate NJ and these BS rules

pje65 The form I got shows how much tax was paid, and it's the correct amount. This is just the NJ bureaucracy doing its thing.

Zillon It's a small possibility the dealer took the tax amount and pocketed it, instead of forwarding it to NJ.

I have heard of this happening before.

pje65 Well, the form I got is on official letterhead and looks legitimate. There was an error on the form--it mentioned used cars--so I called the # on it. It took me 45 minutes to get through to a person. That would be consistent with my previous encounters with the government in NJ. Now, I did buy this car in PA, so it's possible that that had something to do with it. The woman I spoke to didn't seem to think that was relevant. Perhaps she was misinformed. I can't imagine that they'll make everyone who buys a car in NJ do this. They'll have an armed revolution on their hands. At any rate, I finally got in touch with everyone I needed to in order to make this BS go away. I probably wasted 2 - 3 hours overall.

Uptcv1 Scam..?
Purchased 11 cars in the last 10 years all in Jersey never heard of this..

wgilles Knock on wood, I haven't received this letter. If I do get one, I will be forwarding (by that I mean, stopping in and handing it to my salesperson) it to my dealership and having them take care of it.

copernicium112 Wow, that is ridiculous. How annoying, making it your burden. Nothing like "guilty until proven innocent".

cmmike1 never heard of that before.
