I had to cut off the small diameter rubber end piece that fits to the cold air pipe in order to get the lid of the airbox to close properly without the filter sticking out of one end!

This is on a Focus III with the 1.6 EcoBoost engine.
I fought with it pretty hard, but eventually got it to go in without cutting or altering anything.

I really pushed hard and twisted it round but it just wouldn't slot back - not enough give in the back of the airbox...

I had a hell of a time getting the lid to go back on properly. I eventually had it seated right and I did not have to cut the filter or filter box in any way.

Hmm. I wonder why mine had an issue.
I was twisting the filter and the rubber end was hard up against the plastic box but the solid end of the filter still stuck out.

Templar26 So, this is a little embarrassing to ask. I just did the snorkel delete on my car with a friend helping, and while removing one of those plastic plug/seal things, it popped out and dropped into the engine compartment. I couldn't see where it was or get to it or get under the car to look.

For all I know, it dropped to the bottom and then fell out when I started to drive (didn't hear anything, didn't seem to be a problem). Should I worry about it?
