BigJay Hi, Yea re-using the brackets is what I was trying to do however it seems the lip on my speakers (where you screw them in) rest on the raised thin lip of the bracket, I tried to remove the lip on the bracket however it didn't come out clean. The bigger problem was the basket for my new speakers is just a hair too big to fit in the opening of the re-used bracket, I'll post some pics tonight of what I mean...

Tiger-Heli You would either need to use aftermarket spacers or mount the new speakers to the destroyed spacers from the OEM speakers, but 6.75's should work.

If you are soldering, I wouldn't see the speaker gauge being an issue.

BigJay Hey guys, I'm trying to replace my focus' speakers with new coax speakers. I purchased 1 set of focal pc165 for the front doors and 1 set of JL c2 650's for the rear door. I just finished removing the door panel and moding the bracket but it seems like no matter how much i cut back the bracket the speakers don't seem to fit! Are these speakers 6-3/4"? is that why? Can I buy an aftermarket bracket that will work??

As well I was trying to use 16GA wire to connect the speaker to the bracket connection points and seem to be having a tough time soldering the wire on, should I be using a lower gauge wire??

BrianR815 No problem.

Firefly81 Awesome. That's what I figured I would need, just wanted to confirm. Thanks so much.

BrianR815 Okay I misunderstood, sorry about that. I would just use 1 inch self tapping screws, something like this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004XM...ref=mp_s_a_1_1

Firefly81 For now I'm going to use the stock speaker bases. If I have a rattling issue, I can always go back and fix it with the aftermarket spacer later.
I know to reuse the stock screws to mount the base to the door. I meant what screws should I use to mount the speaker to the base?
Thanks again.

BrianR815 If using the stock bases, I would reuse the stock screws or the new speakers may even come with screws. But personally what I do is use a spacer which is mounted and sealed to the door. Then mount the speaker to the spacer using appropriate length screws. The idea is you want to decouple the speaker from the door to prevent rattles and improve sound quality.

Firefly81 Thanks. I actually went ahead and ordered them anyway figuring that I can make them work. I will be putting them in tomorrow night. Any suggestions on what screw type/thread to get to screw the new speakers into the old speaker bases?
