PM Sent! However, for those that are reading this or may read it later, our group 27,31,34C,51 and 78 batteries have vent provisions. Yes, a battery will only vent when it is overcharged, or on the rare occasion when a battery shorts out internally or maybe even if something in the electrical system shorted out, but in that case you would have other problems too. You may never have an issue, but it is sorta like not wearing a seatbelt because you have never had a wreck. You only need safety protection in the emergency, but the distance between the guard rail and pavement is very quick at 70mph sideways, may not be time to buckle up.

avengerc4 I have been on and off. I am finally keeping full coverage on it year round so whenever I feel like driving it I can :D I am gonna drive it at least two weeks here now :)

avengerc4 Hmmm thanks Bill. That is just a red top yes. Which batteries do you have that are vent-able? So your saying the battery will only let out harmful vapors if it gets overcharged or anytime it is charging?

Optima Bill Hi,
Great pictures and installation. I can understand what you are saying about trial and error, not many books to tell you how to do a project like this and getting the wiring run so it doesn't get in the way of anything is tough sometimes. I need to caution you about one thing though. As euro-bred said, you really need to seal that box and vent it to the exterior of the car, down through the floorboard will be fine. We do make ventable batteries, but the one you used, a group 35 (as best as I can make out in the pictures) isn't one that has venting provisions. You are correct, it is fine to mount it on it's side, but, any battery that is overcharged has provisions to vent itself and our batteries are no different. Without being able to vent, they would explode and that isn't a good option either. However, those gasses are toxic and can harm you and your passengers in the event that the battery did get overcharged. Please look at maybe a new cover for your box, some rubber gaskets or something to seal what you have there and then make some provision to vent it outside. Depending on the area you are working with, you may be better off to google ventable battery boxes and buy something that will be plug and play.

avengerc4 Where the battery WAS I'm going to move the coolant bottle for the heat exchanger to that location. Then I'm making some custom hood scoops to let cooler air into the engine bay.

avengerc4 I know I figured I'd be funny since I'm livin in the stone age lol ;)

But anyone got any ideas on how to cap those distribution blocks up front? I was thinking the battery covers like in the box, but I think gravity will win. Any ideas?
