Seriously Focused Unfortunately, I see immaturity sometimes rears it's ugly head when I read some of the posts here

MyThIc3LiTe If your dealer said it was an auto, bad on them.

My dealer made it perfectly clear it was a DCT, I already knew but I was nice to know that they did.

DCTs are superior in any way to a torque converter. Jitteriness at low speed is fine seeing as how EVERY DCT on the market kinda doesn't like low speeds

jagreene The fighting about this is intense. Let's face it... when a lot of us bought the car and drove it for months it didn't make any noises, grinding, etc. It was sold as an "automatic" that gets "great mpg" because of a new technology. We may have missed the mark on doing a ton of research on this "new technology" but regardless the car we test drove was way different from the car we drive now. Or at least it is in my case. So back off of people. It's not uneducated drivers, or bad drivers... it's bad advertising on Ford's behalf and shady service.

Technically yes it's a dual clutch automated manual. You are correct.

It shifts the car automatically for the driver. That sounds automatic to me. Which do you think appears more appealing from a marketing point of view... Automatic Transmission, or Dual-Clutch Automated Manual Transmission... the second one is sure to confuse buyers who don't know what it is.

VW still markets their DSG as an automatic yet it too is a dual-clutch automated manual gearbox.

It's the same idea, it shifts automatically, it's still an AUTOMATIC transmission. You throw the word manual in when you're trying to market an automatic option and you get confusion

The dealership isn't required to explain any of this. It's still an automatic transmission. Sure it would be nice if they mentioned it up front, but again, some do some don't they don't HAVE to do it. It's still an automatic and if you do your homework prior to buying you know what you're in for.

While I do agree that on the website and at the dealership they should be more up front in adding the fact that it IS a dual-clutch automated manual, at the end of the day it's still an automatic transmission. It's just a different type. Just because it's actually an automated manual doesn't mean it's not automatic, obviously it is, since you don't have to shift it yourself.

I haven't noticed this in any other car except the 2012 focus. How do you feel about it?
If the transmission isn't functioning as you expect it to, please PM me your VIN, mileage, phone number, and dealer name; I'll escalate this with your region's Customer Service Manager.

Being on the cutting edge means breaking a few eggs here and there, but they will be rewarded in the long run and I applaud them for being gutsy and trying.

DayGlow Really? So in the 100,000+ sales you know for a fact that there was no discussion of the DCT?

Do you do any research before dropping 20 grand on a car? it took me all of a minute or so when I was starting to look for a new car to learn it was a DCT and what that means.
