sbc17 I forgot to update this on Saturday.

So I went and worked a bit Saturday afternoon. I found where one of the plugs went in the car. Probably took me a solid 45min to get it hooked up. It's the 3 wire that goes to the backside of the trans near the shift linkage. It was a huge PITA but it's plugged in.

Then I went and drained the oil. It was darker(probably the assembly lube burning off). I didn't see anything in the oil as far as metal or crap. My next step was to cut open the filter and see what it caught(if anything). There was a decent amount of a flaky black material. I'm pretty sure it isn't metal but I didn't like that it was there. So I put fresh oil in it and started it up for a sec to listen. The tick/knock is still there on cylinder 2+3 intake side. It's def in the head and not the lower end. I have no idea what it is and at that point I was pretty fed up with the situation so I called it a day. [emoji35]

Pretty sure at this point I'm going to take it somewhere and have it looked at. I just want it to be done already.

Oh, and to add to the stress my daily broke on me last week. 1st gear makes a lot of noise. Luckily I've been able to borrow my sisters car. Someone is looking at the sunfire tonight to determine if the trans is junk which means the car is toast. [emoji26]

I've been looking at 2010 fusions as a daily(good MPG, reliable, good looking solid car). I have always liked them, it's just a matter of affording the financing and insurance. [emoji53]

ITS ALIVE!!!! (Sorta)

So after working all day Saturday and pretty much all day yesterday we got the car to fire and run! It was running pretty rough since there is a bit of crappy gas mixed with fresh 93. The first test drive was good. The clutch felt great but the car sputtered and was difficult to drive(bad gas).

So we came back after about 2 miles and started addressing the codes the ECU was throwing.

-Fuel pressure control something.
-EVAP module code
-It thought one of the O2 sensors was unplugged even tho it wasn't.
-Speedo and odometer aren't working(accidentally busted the sensor plug off while pulling the motor)
-And the airbag light is blinking.(not quite sure on this one.

There are 3 plugs that aren't connected to the motor. The goofy triangle one goes to the trans for the speedometer and the other 2 we have no idea. One is a simple 2 wire(we though went to the airbag sensor by the bumper but that one is green). The other is a 3 wire that is identical to the plug going into the TPS. No clue where the 2 go(which could be some of the thrown codes).

So aside from that there weren't any timing codes or anything major which was good! So we fiddled around a bit more to solve a few of the codes and after a while we drove it again. This time we went about 4-5miles. As I pulled into a parking lot to turn around we noticed a rather loud ticking/knocking. I thought "oh here we go again it just blew up." So we went and got the trailer and towed it back to the barn. :(

After letting it cool down for a bit we started it again and the sound was still there but you could send tell it was somewhere in the head and not the bottom end (A bit of relief at that point). My friend narrowed it down to the intake cam for cylinder 2&3. He is thinking that the lifter is not getting enough pressure and that the cam lobe is smacking it when it comes around. So I think there may be an oil passage that has a bit of gunk in it still. Which means I have to disassemble stuff again... Probably take the head off and double check the oil lines. Etc.

So, we made a great amount of progress this weekend! I'm excited but disappointed at the same time. We will figure out the issues hopefully this week and into next weekend. :)

Oh hey, for the life of me I can't find what the typical oil pressure numbers should be for these cars. I'm assuming 20-25 at idle? And obviously higher as it revs up. Can anybody enlighten me on that??

sbc17 Update for tonight's work.

I got the header back on. It wasn't to difficult. The hardest part was fighting the CAT into place.

I also got the oil pressure sensor hooked up to the head. This was a bit tricky since it's pretty tight next to the coil pack. I ended up using a 90* elbow off the head to a 45* so that the huge head on the sensor could clear. I'm going to have to use some washers to push the bracket further away from the head so that it will clear the fittings. Either way it just fits and it's the perfect location.

Aside from that I filled the trans back up with fluid. I'm glad I invested the $5 on the hand pump for the quart containers. That was a lifesaver!

The front brakes were partially put back together so I got the drivers side completed. The passenger side is almost done. I need to put a new wheel stud since one was bent.

The EVAP module is back in and hooked up. I was really careful with the plastic vacuum lines with this one since they snapped on the original one when removing it from the car.

List of stuff to do.
-Bleed clutch/brakes
-Re-install cool pack and few surrounding pieces.
-radiator fan
-header heat shield
-misc wire harness plugs
-wheel stud/brakes
-headlights/bumper/hood
-battery
-top off power steering and coolant
-re-install fuel line

All in all I'm getting there one bit at a time.

More work last night. We got the studs in the CAT drilled out and popped them out of the flange. That was a PITA....

Would have had the header back on the car but my buddy realized there was a cut in the header. This was from when my other friend cut the stud to get it off. So that should be getting welded up today at work. Luckily he noticed before it was all assembled otherwise that would have been one heck of an exhaust leak. Lol

Should be working on the car after work tomorrow late. Hopefully we an get it started!

sbc17 I worked on the car a bit yesterday. I was on my own so I didn't get much done.

The vacuum and oil pressure gauges have been mounted. The sensor wiring has been ran to the engine bay and I removed the plug in the head to put the oil pressure sensor into. I sized up some fittings and need to get a 90 elbow so that I can fit it all behind the coil pack. I got a handful of other small misc. things done as well. Main things is that I'm working on it and making progress!

Gauges. The wiring isn't super pretty, I just wanted to get it all installed so I have the feedback when I start it up. When the car comes home I'll make it all look nice.
