RonMaiden I got these at Discount Tire price matched with their on-line site for a little over $1100 OTD but no TPMS. 215/50s on 17"s.

Bard_Titanium Out of curiosity, for any of you who have ordered from Tire Rack, has anybody called you back requesting a phone number listed under Directory Assistance to verify you?

They said this was for fraud protection, which I understand, but I've purchase things online much bigger and never had anything like this before.

Bard_Titanium So I placed my order yesterday. Ended up getting

Michelin X-Ice Xi3 tires at 215/55 R16
Steel rims and hub cap
TPMS sensors
Ford Trigger tool
mounted and balanced

All through TireRack for $1100 OTD with $70 VISA card rebate.

Overall I'm pretty happy with my purchase, I appreciate your guys input. Can't wait to get them next week!

thenorm the wheel size looks fine.
another option is 205/55R16 which is a much more common size.
You'd be fine the iPikes. even the cheapest snow tire you can buy will be 100 times better than all seasons

Will 215/60 R16 be a size that will fit?

I know tirerack suggests 215/55 R16 (I really don't even know what these numbers mean...) but I'm loooking to get Hankook iPike tires now as a buddy of mine referred them and said he has been really happy, plus there a bit cheaper than Blizzaks. Just want to make sure that size along with the Momo Winter Pro 16x6.5 5-108 40S are the right size, bolt pattern to fit my Focus.

Thanks guys!
The recommended aspect ration is 55% on a 215. Aka, the side wall height is 55% of the tread width. For reference, I'm running a 225/55/16 on my car as of now. Nothing wrong with it other than, it will get better mileage due to the taller tire.

If that is the tire you want then, run them. The speedo will be 3.3% slower than the recommended size. Even then, its not a guarantee it will be right since, all manufacture's tires are different physical sizes.

The bolt pattern is right for the car. Also, a nifty calculator for comparing tire sizes:

Bard_Titanium Well crap...I guess the Hankooks don't come in the 215/55 R16 size.

Is that the right bolt pattern though for the wheels?

Sonic_HedgeHog That number is the vertical measurement. So going taller may throw off your speedo enough to be significant.

At what point in the season must you switch over to winter tires? I've heard that when temps drop below 40 degrees consistently, but others say not until you think it'll start snowing.
Mine are going on as soon as I get home and change. With the sleet/snow that we had around Metro Detroit, its just time.

The main issue is what temperature the rubber compound of each tire is designed to do, so temp is a better indicator. The rubber compound in Summer tires begins to "chunk" off in the 40's, while the rubber in winters gets a little greasy in the 50's and above. Driving on any tire outside of it's designed temperature range will, at best, reduce the life of the tire, and at worst, reduce the life of it's owner.
