stevetimm Foam on my 2012 SE was fine when I bought the car in March. However, I noticed this morning that it is starting to deteriorate. Although I'm still under warranty, I'll probably just order the new part and do the replacement myself. Fifteen minutes of work sure beats at least a month (or more) of back and forth with the dealer.

feta_mgp Just had mine replaced a 2nd time. The material now looks identical to the material used around it, no longer the same foam material, they may have updated this piece because of this issue. Will post pics if you want, but it'll have to wait until tomorrow for good lighting.

unclebrud Thanks, that's great. My shelf was replaced under warranty and now the foam is disintegrating again...I think your fix will work much better.

cobrajet429 Just installed mine. I used a putty knife to scrape off what I couldn't remove by hand. Very straight forward and not worth tying up car for dealer.

For that price? it's just material to repair. $6.50 from my dealer.

I have an extended warranty, but this is so easy it's not worth it (to me) to leave at the dealer to have performed.

Super easy, took about 15 minutes, but will wait to re-install the shelf tomorrow so the adhesive can dry.

The replacement part is a *much* better material. Kind of a non-woven fiber mat that's the same stuff as the covering on the shelf.

Was $8.00 for the part and $4.00 for a tube of RTV from Napa to stick it on.

Part numbers:

Black: DM5Z-5446506-AB
Tan: DM5Z-5446506-AA

TSB with instructions
Does anyone have a picture of these parts? How difficult is it to repair this on your own?

Macbot My dealer is only about a mile from my house, so I picked it up there. It wasn't in stock, but they were able to bring it from another dealer in town on the same day.

I reinstalled the shelf on Saturday & it looks great now. Be sure to keep the RTV away from the openings when you apply it. You don't want that to squeeze out into the visible area.

Go to Fordparts.com and paste in that part number.
