Maybe it's a deal with paint makers and car makers to sell more touch up pens ?
I work in the paint industry and I can say that waterborne paint is way less tougher than solventborne paint.
Main advantage for me of the water switch is the toxicity of it. (Less VOC ... volatile organic compound)

That's frightening to say the least... Causes? What was the issue?

|dwardo||I don't much like my Focus even though it does everything it is supposed to do, but I have to say the paint quality is very good. Mine is black. There is a very small chip on the driver's door that I need to touch up and a dent in the decklid from a hailstone, I think, which is less than a nickel in size and did not chip the paint. I think the paint is lovely. OTOH, I just bought a 2007 Grand Marquis (yeah, I know, I went in a totally different direction) and every car I shopped had some kind of paint peeling issue. The one I bought had only some peeling confined to a seam, I thought, but when I dropped it off at the paint shop to be touched up (it's that nice) the guy said the paint just peeled off and I had to have him shoot the entire roof. Oh well.|

Most would never even know the wrap was there.

My 14 Titanium was immediately wrapped after purchase. Using 3m UV resistant clear wrap, the entirw bumper and 24" of the hood. Car has taken a beating on the interstateand my rural back roads and looks brand new 3300 miles later.
I am currently looking into a coating called "Ceramic Pro", it is applied yo the finish and is a permanent protective barrier.
Side note: Even if I have to replace the wrap every 2-3 years, having a clean, unmutilated car will make it worthwhile imo.

I have a '12 Sterling grey Ti.
Going to pick my car up from the dealer body shop today. The paint literally started peeling off on the hatch where the panel above the license plate met the actual hatch.
All sanded down and repainted under warranty.
As others have said, new paint sucks. Don't expect it to get any better either.
