Agreed, but does that make any of what I wrote any less true? The passage of time has not revoked the sales figures from last July, or the reasons for them. Maybe Elizabeth has already sold her yellow SE, but the same principles still apply to anyone else looking for a rare configuration. What's the problem, dude?

"Ugly" is in the eye of the beholder. Some folks like yellow, some silver, gray, or white.

Think of it as an accomplishment rather than a penalty. That's part of the cost of not being just another member of a herd. Years from now that 60 mile drive will probably still stand out in your memories.

Put yourself in their place. Every day a car sits in their inventory it loses them money. Would you order a car that more people are likely to be interested in and will sell sooner, or one that fewer people want and would sit around waiting a long time for a buyer to appear? (The color you bought has not been a big seller.) The best the dealer can hope for is that when that happens, the demand/supply equation works out in their favor and they can make up some of what it cost them to have the car sitting in inventory longer than usual. Where else are you going to go for the car you want? Of course, if you play it right, you can reverse that with "Who else is going to buy this car?" Just don't let them know up front that its what you REALLY want. (I hope you had a good "poker face" and got a good deal on yours.)

When it comes time to sell that car, you'll have a similar situation. You might have to wait a long time to find someone who wants that combination, but when you do you'll know they're not likely to find another like it anywhere nearby. The situation reverses if you try to trade it in to a dealer, though. Until then, you can really enjoy not seeing dozens of other cars just like yours everywhere you drive or park. Of course, if your driving style ever attracts the attention of a law enforcement officer, the same will be true -- easier to get lost in a crowd of traffic in one of those "ugly" colors. (Not sayin' how I know that.)

I'm in a similar situation looking for an SE sedan with a manual transmission in the SF bay area. Nobody buys them that way (even in the "ugly" color I'd prefer), so I'll have to order it. I guess I can test-drive an SE hatchback with a manual and an SE sedan with the DCT and hope I get the full picture, but I really would rather drive the particular car I'd be buying before giving them any money.

I seriously wonder if people test drive other cars before deciding on shoddy crap like the corolla.
I test drove a Corolla briefly at the 2011 South Florida International Auto Show and it was bad. The steering is horrible! I think people buy the Corolla based on the Toyota reputation and also, it is among the simpliest cars in the class.

At least the Focus beats the Chevy Snooze. Also, the Dart is brand new and we will see how that does. I am suprised that the Jetta is not doing too bad in sales. It must be the rental car companies buying it up.

And like our government is any smarter? Who do you think is buying up and will eventually control our petroleum industry? That's right, the Chinese.
Sorry for derailing the thread but that had to be said.

Maybe my 1995 Corolla was the armpit of the freeway, but no car should be leaking oil at 75k, with transmission fluid gaskets on the verge of dripping fluid 10k after that. Or, rather, that's the only car I had such problems with after 7 years of operating it... apart from the 1981 Prelude, which was over a decade old and had 180k+ on it...

kam327 At least the Escape bested the CR-V for the top spot last month.

And again I ask 45% of what.
It would be nice if you followed your own advice and provided proof behind your statment.

And there's really no need to be a d*ck about it. Why has this apparently gone up your posterior sideways???
