Hate to bring back up and old thread, but I'm one who wanted the 5-Speed Candy Red Hatchback really bad and the only one available in my area was a 2012 without the Sport package... so I settled for the rear Drums.
However, putting aside all opinions of Drums vs. Disks - I'd prefer to have all 4-wheels disks and started to look into the parts and trying to see what the differences are...
I snooped around Tousley Ford Parts Depot and found a couple of diagrams with prices etc.
Of course, this only gives a snapshot of what the parts are and is not a true representation - and I'm pretty sure you can get some of these parts for cheaper if you search hard enough; but here's what I'm seeing so far:
REAR DISK BRAKE SET UP:
1 - Rotors - $80 (pair)
2/3 - Hubs Assemblies - $150 (pair)
4 - Backing Plates - $32 (pair)
5 - Backing Plate Bolts - $9 (for 8)
6 - Calipers - $170 (pair)
7 - Caliper Bleeders - $8 (pair)
8 - Caliper Hardware - $20 (pair)
9 - Caliper Support - $50 (pair)
10 - Caliper Support Bolts - $4 (for 8)
11- Brake Pads - $44 (set)
12 - Brake Springs - $16 (pair)
13 - ABS Sensor - $20 (pair) - if not compatible with current
14 - Brake Hoes - $22 (pair) - if not compatible with current
15/16 - Brake Tube and Line - $30 (set) if not compatible with current
So the total would be definitely be +/-$650 from Ford... unless you get most of these from a different supplier or even a junk yard (for calipers/caliper support/backing plates)... (pads/rotors could be bought at your local Autozone or even Ebay for example)
REAR DRUMS SET UP:
Is there anything else (besides e-brake/parking brake cable) that would be needed for such a conversion???

It's mostly that the main hydraulic braking system is boosted by the engine, and also that you can't pull up with your arm nearly as hard as you can push on the brake pedal with your leg.
When you pull the parking brake lever, you're literally just pulling a skinny little cable to draw the rear shoes into the drums. As you pulled the lever harder and harder to make the decelerate the car more quickly, the cable would stretch or eventually break, before you could apply the rear shoes nearly as hard as the brake pedal can.

|BetaDnB||I appreciate your explanation. Realistically, however, would rear only hydraulics give you any more stopping power than the ebrake? I should've taken physics, damnit.|

Another way of putting it, if you were driving forward at 50 mph, and you made a panic stop with the pedal, those rear brakes will "pull" the rear of the car down slightly, but you've shifted so much weight off the back end of the car that the rear springs "push" the rear end up even more than the pull from the rear brakes, and the net effect is that the rear end will rise.
As proof, try driving backwards (slowly and carefully ) and then yank the parking brake. The rear of the car will actually lift up because the rear brake torque is in the opposite direction versus when driving forward.
And if you want to go crazy, build up some speed in reverse and stomp the pedal--the rear end will drop, as expected.
You could make the car nosedive driving forward with rear brakes if there were a way to activate only the rear hydraulics, ori if you had a ridiculously powerful parking brake.

My requirements were 5spd and the sport package and it needed to be Candy red so the only option I didn't get was the winter package but not a dealbreaker for me. I test drove a Ti with the DCT at the urging of the sales man and wasn't impressed so I knew the 5speed was the right choice and my wife even demanded it.
Painting the calipers tomorrow.

|Sonic_HedgeHog||There wasn't one on the lot for me unless I wanted the DCT. My requirements were Manual transmission, SYNC, Sport Pkg and Moonroof. They only had to go 450 miles to find it. It's too bad more dealers don't go and look it up for more people. Singed papers on Sat, had my car on Thursday!|

|Sonic_HedgeHog||The same could be said to those that didn't want to spend the coin for the Sport Pkg in the first place. It wasn't just the brakes in the pkg that made it a steal.|
