If you notice the stock air box gets air from 2 different locations and it gets it from the outside air where it is routed. What good is is to put bigger intake on if you lose hp? I would rather have it slightly restricted and get colder air from the outside than have a cai that i cant use when ambient temps are over 90 degrees. If it is a 100 or more the whole car dogs out and eats gas like a mustang mach 1. if you dont believe my experience then call Aaron and injected and ask him what dynoed better! and that is the truth.
to me cai's are good for winter time or if you live in Minnesota or Nebraska. just saying
if Injected is reading this then build us a cai that is routed outside the engine area where we can truly grab colder air if not then I am hooking up my a/c to it lol
A dyno isn't proof of this because they use a fan and not moving air like the real world, dynos are great for a lot of things but air temperature is not one of them.

I have been logging intake air temp vs ambient air temps with OBD data, my setup runs about 2-4 degrees hotter than ambient at highway speeds, and 12-14 degrees hotter at idle. While taking it out of the engine bay will help, it will not equate to a big difference. From what I have found online 11 degrees=1HP

You're wrong. AEM already produces a CAI and (coincidentally, maybe) is currently installed on this forum's highest HP car. I have yet to see any aftermarket intake not produce gains over the OEM box. Independent testing has shown both the Typhoon and Steeda intakes producing 15+ HP and I can personally vouch for the Typhoon as I did dyno testing to prove it. A non-shielded SRI will definitely be one of the worst options, but to state that they don't produce power is just false. And fwiw the stock box only gets air from one location, it just splits it into two tracts.

I like Aron and the guys at Injected, but what you are stating just isn't true. We have a dyno thread here that shows exactly the opposite of what you're claiming. Even with the drop-in and snorkel-delete, my OEM box was never making power remotely near the Typhoon except in the lower rpm ranges. Are there better options for someone that does a lot of idling in high-temp areas? Sure. But with any intake you are making some sacrifice for some gain. I don't remember exactly where, but someone did IAT testing and the additional temperature was dissipated well before 15mph.

I don't, because my IAT temps with the K&N aren't much higher than ambient during my normal day-to-day summer driving. I can understand where there is such a difference between stock and the Injen because, frankly, the Injen heat shield is nearly worthless.

Again, with a well-shielded short-ram intake such as the K&N or Steeda, this is only true if you're in slow traffic with a lot of stops and experiencing heat soak. If you don't have to stop frequently like myself, the K&N intake does not experience temps much higher than ambient +10 in 90-degree heat. The stock intake can't do much better than that. I have data logs of IAT to prove this if you would like to see them.

If you're one to get caught in stop-and-go traffic then, yes, you may want to consider going back to the stock intake in the summer. Any owner of a short-ram intake should be aware of this fact--they are not designed to stay cool in heat-soak situations, and aren't claimed to be.

well the only thing is this box grabs air from the pipe underneath and from the side as shown in the photo. as I said earlier the only thing that will beat this stock air box in hot weather is a cai that grabs air from the outside period.

not sure how the steeda is routed all i can say is when the throttle is wide open and it is hot outside most cai's are grabbing tons of air from the 140 + degree air from the engine compartment. Stock box gets cold air from outside the vehicle in two different locations. If you are in doubt put your stock on during this heat wave and tell me if you dont notice a massive difference. we need to close our ears to the aggressive sound of a cai and feel the pedal this way you are not biased.

yoshi1015 now, I know my last writing will piss off a lot of people and that is not my intention just want us to stop smoking crack and get Injected to build us a true cai that is routed from outside the engine compartment where it can grab colder air. I am past the hype and looking for true hp gains.

Vanquished I'm not so sure the stock box would make a difference... my Steeda CAI is sealed off from the engine pretty well and it still gets air from the stock snorkel. As well as from the left part of the engine bay, but the depressions on my hood liner are extremely visible ergo, I know it seals pretty much to hood. Maybe the stock box "makes a difference" because it drives worse all the time instead of when it's just really hot out...

yes this is what I was trying to tell everyone with the cai's.
