Zetec is not, but occasionally a high RPM failure can bend a valve anyways.
The SVT version of the zetec IS an interference setup, that's why it's more critical on that type.
See you got your answer on prev. maint., yes many do the pump at the same time since it's in the area & serpentine is coming off anyways.

Is the Zetec an interference engine?
Found the number for the PO. She had not changed the belt. Might as well do the water pump too!

|sailor||Well overdue if it wasn't changed, 10 yr./100k works better on older zetecs (SVT's often by 80k, as failure there causes damage for sure)|

|In a Focus group||Just bought an '03 with just over 140k miles. Been doing the maintenance to get a baseline - fluids and filters. One thing I forgot to ask is if/when the timing belt was changed. Need to do it soon I guess. The schedule says to replace it at 120k.|

2005 ZX4 base model at 202,990. We have basically only replaced brakes and suspension parts. The engine runs like a champ, no issues yet with the fuel system, and it even has the original clutch and alternator. Very pleased with the car.

Just turned 178K in my 2001 2.0 ZX3 auto trans.
Reverse went out at 172K. Still runs like a top...lol.

2003 ZX5 with 512 000.
Okay, that's in kilometres, but still it's up there.
Original DOHC 2.0L engine and manual transmission.

Rotors that aren't in perfect condition comes to mind.
