TheHumbleGeek I believe both mothers and meguiars make kits. My personal choice is the mothers three-stage wax.... No claybar, but stage one (which is the cleaner/prep) does a similar thing, in that it lifts and removes contaminants from the paint. Oddly enough, according to the mothers website, the BIG wax/clean kit comes with a claybar, instant detailer, all three stages of wax, couple of other items. Its available with either a paste wax or a liquid wax...

rebelx I have no idea what any of this is, but I've learned to keep my paint looking good and shiny (sterling grey or ingot silver--not sure which one I'm taking home), I need to buy:

a clay bar, wax, sealant.

Is there an entire kit that will have all of those that people actually recommend (vs buying them individually so I don't buy the wrong pieces)?

It's almost never too late to correct it. It's pretty rare for embedded contamination to actually perforate the clear. It may take a few applications of ironx though. :)

Well, I've done a few clay bar sessions since this post but I FINALLY ordered some iron-x to address the rail dust on the back hatch area. It's been there since I received the car so hopefully I'm not too late to the party to correct it.

RonMaiden I am a real believer in a clay bar job before you put a wax over the whole thing instead of just waxing over the rail dust and other contaminents on a new car that have accumulated from the factory to the dealer and then how long has it been sitting on the lot collecting even more grit and grime.

Just take a ball of cotton on your new paint and run it across and if it drags then you have crap on the paint.

spiikey1 i didnt use any sealant what so ever. For me i gave the car a quick wash then applied turtle hard shell wax. The layer itself has been good and is supposed to be a once a year car wax...However i'm applying a second layer soon. It has been just over a month of owning the vehicle

lyonsroar You spray lots of lube on a panel. Quick detailer works as lube or you can make your own using car wash soap and water in a spray bottle. Then you rub the clay gently on the panel in straight lines sweeping back and forth. You'll feel the bar picking up little contaminants and junk. You'll see it on the bar too. That's it!

Juicedz I have 2000 miles on my 2013 se hatchback. It's Oxford white and I'm finding those small "rail dust" rust spots in the rear. The clay bar will remove these correct? I've never clayed, waxed, or applied sealant before. Can someone give tips on the clay barring? Someone posted, "gentle".

foundonroadalive being the old guy here, i am retired and wax our cars every week. i know this is excessive, but i have the time. i am handicapped due to strokes. i cannot drive, but i love cars, so that is what i choose to do. boy, they do look good. 2011 red kia forte and 2002 blue ford focus. i care mostly about appearance. all the stretching, etc, is good rehab. i love optimum products.
