MooseTheGoose Has anyone had their clutch replaced and NOT had the shuddering/grinding issues re-appear?

I've had my clutch replaced at 20k and 60k miles, and now at 85, am seeing the issues pop up again. If the trend continues, this is realistically my last clutch replacement that will be covered under the extended 100k mile warranty. Can I have any sort of confidence that they'll get it right this time?

I forgot to add one thing, the Focus when the DCT is running right is "quicker" than the mazda-3 but I think all those suffering with the DCT problems would be glad to make that trade-off

this has already been done and works great, just not at Ford. The mazda skyactive transmissions are old style with a lockup torque converter. My mazda-3 shows 35.6 overall mileage with ZERO of the problems and symptoms that fill dozens of pages here.

Don't see how any transmission can be designed to learn habits. As dynamic as life is how can it? Even your daily commute is different every time. So how does it adapt to an ever changing situation? The one thing I've really come to like about our auto Jeep Wrangler, it doesn't do this "learning" thing. It drives and performs like the old school transmissions.

One good/bad things about the DCT is that it learns what to do from how you drive it, especially in the first 1,000 km after the TCM reset. If the gearbox is taught bad shifts, bad things to do to the gearbox that's what it does. Also on the positive side it can be taught to shift well. Especially if you have select shift, put it into manual mode and take some time to teach the proper shift points. Like the link I added in the earlier post (excluding the people who have mechanical problems) they found the car did perform better once they understood it was a manual gearbox with a computer etc to change the gears.

For example one of the complaints people have is the DCT shifting into a higher gear during turning and the car pausing during the turn. eg trying to enter traffic with the car in 4th at 1400 revs at 30km/20 mph is a real pain. If you were driving a manual you would have shifted up into a lower gear eg in town into 2 or 3 and you would have the engine spinning at higher revs in its power zone. You can actually teach the gearbox to be in the right gear for a turn and also you would like to apply power to drive through the corner. This is something new to learn if you have come from a car which does not handle as well as the Focus. This car can handle and you can actually drive it around corners and apply the power as it turns!
Unfortunately I live in the city suburbs and get stuck in traffic a bit. Il have to make some trips out to the open roads on the weekend and give it a blast haha
I do have the select shift so thanks for the tip! I was having trouble taking turns before when it would shift up going into the corner and when you accelerated as you turned it would shudder and struggle out of the turn. Horrible feeling. Now with the new parts its much better and you can actually trust it.
