|all4focus||It can be even easier than that! I gained one or two mpg just from removing the snorkel and resonator from the stock intake. Sounds better and is a bit more peppy too.|

For someone with a dally driver who just wants a couple of extra mpg this mod is a no-brainer. Buy the filter (pref with the radiused inside area...bellmouth)...remove the top of the airbox...install the filter. You're done.
I've had one of the cheaper brands...probably Spectra on two cars and I use a K&N cleaner/oiler kit...and it's still in good condition.
If you run "fast and furious"...buy the expensive stuff...and have it anodized?

|bumble21||Honestly DO NOT PUT a spectre filter in. I just switched back to the OEM box with a snorkel and it sounds better (spectre sounds like rice) and performance wise I get better gas mileage. K and n filter as well|

|FLYLOW||if your going to do this atleast do it right... spend the damn $40 and get a K&N or aem dryflow... why go with a cheap spectre or autozone one? and NO!!!!!!!, a filter is not a filter. Materials, designs, gains, end results and warranties are very different|

I got a 5% (2 mpg) gain from installing a similar cone filter in the same place....but you'd want one with a bellmouth molded inside....
The OEM intake is restrictive even if you have the resonator removed. The OEM airbox has a straight pipe intake.
Intake temps as measured from the IAT thru a ScanGauge are only a few degrees above ambient.
* you need that piece of foam in your box in the upper left corner to filter the intake air for the PCV system?

|calebstubstad||Can you post those pics? I wanna see this. Or a how to of sorts? I have a limited budget, but enough for a decent spectre filter and stuff|

I am currently running the Spectre Filter on my stock tube. So far I have not had any problems with my setup. I will be cutting the stock intake box and making it into a heat shield.
Measured it all out and it will fit. Will post pictures later.
