That's exactly the point I am at. I've been calm and rational up to this point, simply because I believe in treating people with respect. But that is pretty much out the door. The safety of my family and others is at stake, and ford motor obviously could care less.

Whaaaat?

Sounds like horseshit to me. I'd park the unit, demand a free ford loaner, and tell FMC to fix it. It's a wreck waiting to happen. It might be my family in the car that you kill. Or simply let FMC buy it back from you. I'd walk before I drove that turd!

I'd be driving along with normal steering , the power steering fault message appears on screen and within 5 seconds the power steering in the car is gone. Now I'm old enough to have driven a vehicle with manual steering. And this is far worse. You have to exert so much force to execute any sort of turn, or anything. Thankfully when it has occurred I was in a position to maneuver safely off the freeway or off the road. But, that is partly due to the fact that after it happened the first few times I changed my driving habits. You'll find me in the slow lane most days, or avoiding the highway all together. I've gone to taking back roads to try and get around, because if I need to stop the car and try and reset the issue I can. But now the fault message is solid, so I was avoiding driving the vehicle at all.

Mk2100 Hey guys, just wanted to update everyone on my situation. I took it into my local ford dealer to have a diagnosis and estimate done. All totaled the item is going to cost $2300 to fix. I spoke with the service rep when I dropped it off, who actually drove the car into the service bay, and of course his comment was, let me guess power steering issues? He must be psychic. When he called to let me know about the estimate, he told me this item was only covered by warranty if the vehicle was under 36k miles.

What type of bull is that? So now i left a message with the regional manager handling this issue and I suppose since it's the weekend I won't hear back from until Monday. But I seriously think it's time to contact a lawyer. I've looked this item up repeatedly on the Internet and it's happened way to much, and Ford just does not care. So I went to the dealer, paid another $150 for them to basically do nothing, oh I'm sorry they diagnosed an issue that they know is a problem and still charged me $150. When the tech brought my car out I asked him what he thought about driving my car, he said it was interesting.

I'm telling you, ford knows this is dangerous and they don't give f#%^

It happened again while driving about 70 mph on the highway the other, thankfully, I was able to pull over to off, and after turning the car off and restarting, the fault disappeared.

Then on Saturday while running morning errands, it happened again. I was able thankfully to pull off to a side street. I turned the car off and restarted, and lo and behold, the problem did not correct itself. The car is now sitting in my driveway, a useless piece of junk, that is un-driveable.

UNACCEPTABLE
I got your message, and I'm looking into this.

It happened about 3 more times that week and then I went out of town for the holidays. After I got back it happened once and was fine for about a week. My wife and I moved back to Phoenix this past weekend (1/3/15) and during the 1100 mile trip it started happening again. This time it was a lot more serious. It was happening for a few seconds at the time. Yesterday it happened for over ten seconds and I got the dreaded beeping of the car and the warning that the "power assist failure service required." Unfortunately my car was under warranty when the transmission was replaced, but the trip back to Phoenix from Dallas put us over the 60,000 mile barrier. Now the car is at the dealership and I'm afraid that I'm going to have to pay for the service required. I can't afford that based on what I've been reading on here. This is looking to be a long day :(
Hi jchap33,

I'm Meagan, the Customer Service Rep here. Have you heard back from your dealer on this? Please let me know with your updated mileage; I'll see how I can best assist.

I've read about a solution (Reprogram the power steering control module (PSCM) to the latest calibration using IDS release 72.04 and higher or 73.01 and higher. This new calibration is not included in the VCM 2011.5 DVD). Anyone know if it works? I'm not looking forward to shovelling two mortgage payments into this thing.
it wont turn back on i have reprogram mine with ids 93.3A and have not had any luck the EPAS wont activate this car is junk
