I'm wondering why you quoted me before the picture though. The pictures don't address any of my quoted concerns; i.e. airbox vacuum, warm air intake through the holes. I stated that ram air through the newmission tube would not be a concern, and you've shown that.

I get more dirt on the filter from the side that faces the 3" opening where I have tubing connected running to the driver's side grill triangle (aka newmission mod) just as an FYI.

TORQUERULES Funny how this is becoming so popular since I posted it in back in May of 2012. The mod even has its own sticky now with better pics than my original ones.

It would be nice to see if this helps on the dyno. I am sure it would if some air could be directed towards the front of the car with a fan.

dpando1 I have a question I had just taped the silencer and removed the entire snorkel, BUT personally I could not cut the flap underneath it so I just removed that entire piece....would that dwindle the funneling effect of having that there to guide it towards the opening of the intake?

btw swore more than a few times trying to take out that entire piece out from under where the snorkel would be.

Well that's even worse than I was saying.

Isn't this what we're here for? I mean unless you have any solid logged data, I think it's plenty logical for us to discuss the negatives this set up may/may not have.

Are we boring you? Sorry you don't find the discussion interesting.

I wonder if he would have stayed in the discussion if more of us had boosted his ego and told him that we thought drilling holes in his airbox was a great idea?

I wouldn't necessarily agree with that conclusion. The dirt could have been caused by high pressure at the front of the car ramming air through the newmission, not necessarily that there's vacuum pulling air through it into the airbox. It also doesn't surprise me that there's no dirt where the new holes are because, if there is indeed vacuum pulling air in through those holes, that air is being pulled from a relatively clean area (under hood). It's also a possibility that there is actually pressure from the newmission tube blowing OUT of the new holes at speed.

Airbox vacuum, airbox vacuum, airbox vacuum. Yes it's been shown that there's still suction through the NewMission tube. No dirt where all the holes are show there's no suction there. I'd bet if all those holes weren't there that one dirty area on the filter would be 5x dirtier due to more suction because of airbox vacuum.

TboneZX3 Yep, you've proven that you're definitely still getting air & dirt from the newmission mod.

Wait a minute, it looks like it's really dirty right over that 3 in tube. But that can't be, I drilled all those extra holes in the box to negate any advantage of ducting air in from below the bumper...

There is a distinctly large circular pattern to this dirty spot on the pre-filter. Must be from all those little holes I drilled...

Sarcasm aside, it looks like I'm still getting plenty of air from the 3" ducting to the drivers bumper triangle.
Regardless of all the extra comments made before... thanks for trying something new, posting pics and write-up... Great to see people getting out of the box with home improvement options.
Do you still plan to dyno? I would love to see your numbers...
That pre-filter got pretty dirty, likely due to the low intake position of the newmission mod... what do you think about capturing air from somewhere else (like higher up). I know the idea behind all this is to obtain ram-air, but I would think the main gain is the simple increase in flow to the air box, you would have to be moving at WOT at a decent clip to obtain any ram air effect..
Anyways, great work and thanks for the beta testing!!
