This means you now get the chance to run in the gearbox/clutch like you want to. Have fun over the next 1000KM breaking it in.

There was an earlier post about somebody who had similar problems like you. He had problems in the beginning and started to drive it like they recommend here

and after awhile it fixed itself. I think he drove it over 10,000 miles and he said it got better and better.

Just wanted to do a quick update, they had my car in this morning and seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. They did the flash update, i'm picking it up from the dealership tomorrow morning. They claim there was no leaking in the seals and the clutch looks ok so they didn't replace parts, but I don't believe them. However, this is the first time it's in the shop (new to me) so i'm willing to give them one try. Took some coercing to get a loaner from the sales guy but I got one. Something tells me the grinding will continue after the update.

Wanted to THANK EVERYONE on this thread, as cars aren't my specialty and this info helped me get ahead of the issue. My biggest concern is that it won't be fixed and i'll be stuck with a problematic car.

Will post an update after driving it for a bit.

This directly conflicts with the many discussions on these forums about how this problem was limited AND ONLY AFFECTING A SMALL AMOUNT OF PRODUCTION.

Trade-in prices from Kelly Blue book is a useful place to see if you are getting ripped off or not.

The sad news is that when you trade in a 3 year old car it's value can drop to as low as 33% of the purchase price. One of the categories that holds its price well is large SUVs. So after 3 years despite the fact it burns more gas, when you consider the extra trade-in value you may be ahead compared to a compact car purchase. So when you trade-in your Focus you could consider a Toyota Tacoma with a resale value of 81% after 3 years. This type of craziness makes your head spin when you are trying to work out the cheapest way to get around.

12_SESport Just wanted to update you guys. The tcm was the culprit. Funny enough I just got a recall letter from Ford staying I needed to get my tcm replaced for my issue I had. Unfortunately the shudder is back again. The worst part is I've been paying down this car religiously so I can trade it in and the dealership I went to said they won't take it because they have too many being traded in and because of all the transmission issues these cars are having. It's funny how that Ford dealership a year ago sold me this car telling me it's such a great car and not to worry about the complaints for the transmission because they were unfounded. The new ecoboost engines with the new 6 speed auto or the new 6 speed manual combinations now in Europe and other markets are a step up from the 2liter DCT combo currently offered in the US.

If it works together better most people won't worry what it is. Most people people don't care as long as it works. eg a very popular non-Ford model often called "whitegoods on wheels" gets ranked regularly as the number one selling car in the world.

I guess it is a wait and see how the new ecoboost and gearbox combos work in the US and how well the plant they use to build the US models can actually put them together properly and the dealers properly service etc.

Get it wrong and just like a manual the shift can take quite a bit of time as the gearbox gets the revs correct.

I raise these points as the gearboxes seem to die after a period of time. People get them fixed and later the problem is back. Has the gearbox been set to shift to too low revs as some have said to get better fuel economy? Now that the DCT gearbox is being phased out could Ford release a TSB which offers more reliability for D mode? If there was a survey if people wanted 0.5MPG better fuel economy or less days and cost lost for the car being in the shop people would vote for more reliable car.

I raise this as an option as Ford did something similar a few years back with one of their cars where the turbo was set too high and caused reliability problems and they reduced the boost when the customer brought it in for service. Ford could reset the the shift rev levels for more reliability instead of fuel economy.

Another possible solution for people with the DCT gearbox as Ford moves to Focus models with the torque converter.
Odd that it is being phased out as it seems to be in growing use in a collection of brands worldwide. The North American car of the year 2015 was the VW Golf family including the GTI and R models. The R even uses DCT in its all wheel drive.
