townstar Just to update, I just heard back from the ford service department at my local dealer. They did confirm it was the TCM unit and its going to be replaced. They said it would take 2 days for the part. I actually called this morning and asked them to make a note for the mechanic to specifically check the TCM unit. I am sure they would have anyway but I am happy they were able to find the issue and its going to be replaced. I would have really been lost had i not read this thread. So thank you everyone. Ill report back the results of the TCM replacement, but i feel confident. Everything was covered under warranty.

Welcome, townstar!

Heading to your dealer's a great first step. I can check out some additional options. Just private message me your VIN, best daytime phone number, full name, and dealer name/location.

sailor Cross fingers for ya that they get at it soon, and actually that the TCM is the problem.

The only "minor" problem that might be involved is poor battery/battery ground, and that doesn't seem likely for the sudden & severe symptoms.

Replacing a TCM is relatively quick & easy, the alternative major problem means tracing potential wire harness faults in a long and difficult process by comparison - better to have the single component failure IMHO.

garate55 I have this issue now. I can't even start my car, just washed it before work too. This is frustrating. I have 72,000 on mine so maybe it's time for a new car. A Tesla perhaps?

The problem with this is in my experience here in Australia. It was such a bad experience to deal with the dealer simply because they were not knowledgeable of the problems, and were resistant in accepting any other view than their own until I brought Ford Australia into the discussion.. If this happens now that mine has been fixed. All I can say is, I feel sorry for that dealership, and Ford in general, because I will go nuclear in my response to the poor treatment I received the first time!

I took my Focus to the dealership and they said it was a TCM problem. They replaced it under my warranty. It drove perfectly fine for a week, but then started acting up again. I had similar ignition problems, but now the error message is "Air bag malfunction".

Would this still be a TCM problem?

sailor The first situation is a known common symptom of the TCM issue, your current one is a "gremlin" that I haven't seen a match to for a possible guess.

At the dealership now, and they give that look like I'm crazy and they have no idea what's wrong with my car. I love dealerships.
